摘要： A machine for transplanting soil plugs with great uniformity and a minimum of manual labor comprising a conveyor having a plurality of soil plug gripping mechanisms mounted thereto, a furrow opening device, and a furrow closing device. The furrow closing device of the present invention is preferably defined by portions of a bed shaper that operates to form the soil into a trapezoidal planting bed. In addition to the normal function of shaping the bed, the bed shaper establishes a ground level with respect to which the plugs are planted, while the rear portions of the bed shaper act to close the furrow, and include adjustable tabs that may be set to control the timing of the closure relative to the plug positioning. Each plug gripping assembly preferably comprises a center opening clip having opposed resilient fingers. The conveyor path is characterized by a lower horizontal path portion that maintains the plugs at the proper planting depth for a significant interval so that the soil may be properly closed around the plugs before the plugs are released.

摘要： A seed singulator uses two opposing surfaces, one of which has a groove extending across it dimensioned to receive seeds in a single file. The two surfaces are moved relative to each other, with the groove having an angled relationship of less than 90.degree. with the relative direction motion of the two surfaces. Variation of the angle controls spacing between seeds independently of the velocity of relative movement between the surfaces. The surfaces are preferably flat with a centrally disposed seed containing area and the groove extending from that area to the periphery of the surfaces for discharge of the seed. In this form, the relative motion between the surfaces is preferably rotary to provide continuous operation.

摘要： Apparatus for introducing into a prepared field surface a plurality of seedling bodies each of which includes a small plant that is growing in a root supporting medium. A conveyor onto which the seedling bodies are placed and a mechanism for receiving the seedling bodies in sequence from the conveyor for transporting them to a trench in the field surface. 摘要： A planter is provided which automatically deposits equally-spaced, sprout-bearing plugs of specially prepared nutriet soil into the ground. The planter can also be equipped with a supply tank and pipe for adding a measured quantity of gel containing water and seeds with the sprout-bearing plugs. The planter is also equipped with a melting member or piston which is heated. The piston is mounted on a counterweighted arm and moves up and down by means of a solenoid. The piston, which is suitably internally heated by an air-fuel mixture, contacts and melts an oblong hole in plastic sheeting when such sheetings was laid down on a field when it was prepared for planting. The plugs are then planted through these holes.

摘要： A planter is moved through a field to place two rows of four plants on the top of a planting bed between adjacent irrigation furrows. The tray carrying the transplants is registered horizontally and vertically to a plug receiving cylinder by respective cams and a supporting chain. Upon registry, polymer plugs containing sprouted plants therein are ejected, typically eight at a time, by ejecting fingers penetrating the plant receiving holes. Ejection occurs with the plants horizontally disposed into receiving concavities defined within a rotating cylinder. Rotation of the cylinder drops the ejected plants into receiving funnels, one for each plant. Plant downward travel halts at a reciprocating plate. Insertion of the plug into the ground begins with penetration of the ground by a dibble spike followed by circumscribing penetration of a dibble tube around the spike. When the spike is withdrawn, the plant is reciprocated into registry with the dibble tube and the plant blown under pressure down to the bottom of the dibble tube. With the air pressure applied, the dibble tube is retracted, leaving the plant in its wake.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method wherein seedlings, raised in a paper tube assembly connected together by means of connecting portions having a separating line forming the separation course in each, are continuously pulled out while separating the tubes one by one and planting them in the field. In the separation of seedling tubes, a transplanter is provided with rollers for pulling out continuous seedling tubes and other rollers for separating the pulled out seedling tubes into individual seedling tubes. The latter has a faster rotating speed than that of the former and has a cone-like shape or is mounted so as to incline with respect to the former, thereby separating paper tubes into individual pot bodies at the connecting portions, one by one, while moving the separation acting points progressively. The separating-line in each connecting portion has an unjoined separation-guiding-portion extending from one end to 20-70% of the height of the connecting portion. Joined and unjoined portions are distributed over the remainder of the height.

摘要： Seeds to be planted are gravity fed from a hopper to a substantially horizontal portion of an outlet tubing. At the appropriate time a blast of pressurized air ejects a measured amount of seeds into a furrow. Simultaneously, a discrete quantity of vermiculite is gravity fed into a horizontal compartment from which it is also pneumatically ejected with the seeds to form a common mass in the furrow. Subsequently, the vermiculite-seed mass is sprayed with liquid fertilizer and then sprayed with an asphalt stabilizer. A further aspect is the provision of a plurality of such apparatus disposed transversely of the furrows with timed commutators providing planting locations of adjacent furrows in a staggered arrangement. An improved vermiculite dispensing apparatus is provided for metering the discrete quantity of vermiculite which is pneumatically expelled. The dispenser comprises a vertical delivery tube and a horizontal dispensing tube which join to form a generally inverted T-shaped volumetric measuring structure. The lower rear end of the vertical delivery tube tapers inwardly and extends partially into the dispensing tube.
