Abstract: A lightweight shipping device for handling and storing unwieldy, heavy containers such as beer barrels. The device includes a cavity in a stable base that accepts a plurality of popular sizes of beer barrels. The device is made of a lightweight but strong plastic material and includes handles molded into the side to assist in lifting the device when loaded with a barrel. When the device is not needed for storing or lifting a barrel, it can be placed over the barrel. An aperture through the center provides access for a tap, and cupholders along the surface permit the device, when placed over the barrel, to serve as a table.

Abstract: A drum apparatus includes an injection-molded or extruded rim member formed into a ring shape and permanently attached to a blow-molded thermoplastic drum body around the top portion of the drum adjacent to the sidewall section of the drum body. The rim member includes an inwardly, radially projecting annular protuberance which is juxtaposed adjacent an annular groove in the drum just below the top of the drum. The rim member is attached to the drum while the rim member is at an elevated temperature by positioning the rim around the drum. As the temperature of the rim member decreases, the diameter of the rim member decreases causing the annular protuberance to seat into the drum's annular groove. The rim member also has a grasping beak which provides an outwardly extending support lip, a top edge providing a stacking ridge which is positioned vertically over the sidewall of the drum, and an annular seizing surface facing radially inwardly. A short chain hoist groove is formed in the bottom of the drum.

Abstract: A reusable barrel for storing and shipping fluids and other materials. The barrel is capable of being disassembled after initial use to minimize the space required for transporting it back to the original shipper and also to minimize the expense of reconditioning the barrel for reuse. The barrel comprises two nestable, frustrum-shaped half sections, each having a larger open end and a smaller end which is sealingly closed. The respective open ends of the two barrel halves each have respective outwardly projecting flanges formed around their peripheries and are sealingly clamped together by placing a resilient gasket between the two flanges, pressing the half sections together utilizing a hydraulic or similarly powerful machine, placing a plurality of interlocking C-shaped clamps over the flanges around the periphery of the barrel and releasing the half sections, thereby forming a fully assembled container having a tight, leak-proof and tamper-resistant seal. When the barrel is empty it may be disassembled by detaching the two barrel halves from one another and nesting one inside the other for shipment back to the producer. In their disassembled condition the barrel halves can be easily cleaned and reconditioned because of the accessibility of their interior surfaces, after which they may be reassembled and reused.
