Abstract:
A station for cutting a barb suture is provided. The barb cutting station includes a suture transport assembly for supporting a first suture, a first knife assembly for forming barbs on the first suture, and a first clamp and position assembly for approximating the at least first suture towards the at least first knife assembly. The barb cutting station may further include at least a first suture cutting mechanism configured for severing the at least first suture when a defect is detected. The station may also include at least a first visual inspection assembly configured for detecting defective barbs.

The present invention provides a fencing system having interconnected tubular elements comprised of longitudinally extending conductor wires and reinforcement wires. Said conductor wires are conventionally disposed in an outer casing's cavity with an open round or rounded section. Said outer casing is formed by a crimping process such that said conductor wires are reinforced by parallelly extending reinforcement wires, the latter wires being disposed in a separate partition of the longitudinal inner volume of said outer casing. Said partition assigned to said reinforcement wires provides that said reinforcement wires does not damage said conductor wires during the final stage of crimping process in which barbed tapes with pointed and/or cutting barbs are transversely folded around the interconnected tubular elements.
Abstract:
A system and method for producing a barbed taped product is controlled by an electronic controller to provide a predetermined pattern of attachment points. The system automatically clips adjacent loops of product strands together in the predetermined pattern. The system is capable of varying the pattern from roll to roll, within a given roll, and between rolls. The system and method eliminates the need for ceasing production between rolls in order to re-thread.

An apparatus for cutting barbs into a suture having a filament supply. The apparatus also has an in-feed collet for holding one end of a filament threaded therethrough. Further the apparatus has an out-feed collet for holding a second end of a filament threaded therethrough. Additionally, the apparatus has a holder positioned between said in-feed and out-feed collets for holding a filament suspended between the in-feed and out-feed collets. The apparatus also has a cutting assembly for cutting barbs in the filament tensioned between the in-feed and out-feed collets.

The present invention is a method and apparatus for automatically attaching loops of a coil together at desired points. The apparatus comprises a frame, a rotatable barrel, wire separators, alignment fingers, a clipping rack further comprising pincers, and a clipping gun. The barrel, wire separators and fingers cooperate to attach the alternate loops together at desired points. The barrel is driven by a stepper motor to rotate a specific distance about a central axis. The wire separators, pincers, and clipping gun are driven pneumatically. The motor and pneumatics are controlled electronically.

A method and apparatus for providing barbed strap coils without a core by means of a ring coiling device (50) that has no winder provides a single clamping device (96), whereby the coiling is interrupted for the placement of a clamp. A guide device (11B) is arranged in front of the clamping device (6) by means of which two strap sections separated by the one loop can be pushed toward the clamping device (96) by means of a strap feeding device (38). The two coils are guided outside the interruption in the coiling synchronously and in like phase through the location where the clamps are applied, by a synchronization device (60) in the clamping device (96) which engages slip-free in the two strap sections by means of a member (62). A counter (80) that counts the member movements between two successive clamping steps is coupled with member (162).

A helical barbed tape includes barbs with enhanced rigidity, as well as an electrical sensor wire extending along the length of the helical barbed tape so as to be capable of use in an electronic intrusion detection system to mechanically detect disturbances induced on the barbed tape or its supporting structure.
