摘要: A method of riveting two metal parts through a hole with an electro-hydraulic riveting tool. The electro-hydraulic riveting tool includes a tube that is inserted in the hole and an electrode that is inserted within the tube. A liquid is contained within the tube and the electrode is immersed in the liquid. A stored charge is discharged through the electrode to create a shockwave within the fluid that forms the tube into a rivet structure and creates solid state weld between the rivet flanges and the parts that are joined.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are disclosed whereby a propellant driven water stream is used in the formation of materials made from high tensile strength alloys. High pressure developed in liquid flowing through a tubular work piece is employed to achieve desired forms. The high pressure results from superposition of compression waves generated in the course of the impact of the liquid by products of propellant combustion.

摘要: A tooling method for calibrating a partially formed metal part in an electro-hydraulic forming tool. The method includes loading a partially formed metal part onto a forming surface of a die. The part is then clamped onto the forming surface and the part is pulsed with a high rate energy pulse to overcome a spring-back effect in the part. The EHF calibration tool includes a punch to which a part is held by clamps while a capacitive discharge circuit is discharged through electrodes provided in the tool. Upon discharge of the capacitive discharge circuit through the electrodes, a high rate energy pulse is applied through a liquid to calibrate the part.

摘要: A method and apparatus for providing a multidirectional clamping force to clamp selected materials together is disclosed and comprises a tube formed into a closed circular shape and formed of martensitic material and deformed in a first predetermined direction such that the cross-section of said tube is non-circular. An energetic material is loaded into the interior cavity of the tube. An ignition system is operatively positioned with respect to the tube and is capable of igniting the energetic material. Upon ignition of the energetic material, the tube is reconfigured to provide a clamping force in a predetermined direction to clamp the materials together.

摘要: Structures with inter-connecting members such as shores, struts, braces and the like which are subject to compression and/or tension stresses can be erected even when the foundation strata do not exactly meet anticipated levels, or when differential settlements occur at base points after loads are applied. At least one of the structural members is in the form of a first elongate section having a hollow mating end, and a second elongate section including a hollow bell-shaped end. The mating end of the first section is slidably received in the bell-shaped end of the second section, and the first and second sections are allowed to slide axially of one another at least during erection of the structure. At a desired time after erection, relative sliding movement between the first and second sections is prevented, thus fixing the length of the structural member.

摘要: A bimetallic shaped-charge liner is formed by explosively bonding two metal disks and then shear-forming the bonded disks simultaneously into a conoidal shape over a mandrel. An exemplary method for manufacturing a ductile, bimetallic, shaped-charge liner comprises the steps of explosively bonding a plate of one metal to a plate of another metal; annealing the bonded plates; cuting forming blanks from the bonded, annealed plates; shear-forming the blanks with the light metal side outward into a conoidal shape over a mandrel; and then annealing the resulting conoid.
