摘要: A device for undercutting a rotating workpiece is provided wherein the tool carried by the toolholder is actuated into and out of engagement with the workpiece at predetermined feed locations. A base forms the mounting for the undercutter attachment with the toolholder being pivotally mounted on said base. The tool is moved axially in one direction along the workpiece to provide cutting. When the end of the travel has been reached, the tool moves in the opposite or return direction and the tool is automatically disengaged prior to reaching the start of the undercut portion. The actuator for the tool includes a pivoted arm and stationary trip cam on the machine tool. A positive latch holds the tool in the cutting position and a release trigger engages the trip cam to release the latch during the return feed at the proper position. The latch comprises a biased pin and the pivotal toolholder is biased by a spring activated cylinder. The trip cam includes a button having a spring with sufficient strength to overcome the countering forces of the cylinder and the latching pin to assure proper actuation of the tool. The method includes the steps of maintaining the tool out of the path of the workpiece, moving the tool into undercut working engagement, continuing to feed the tool to provide an extended undercut, returning the tool, and disengaging the tool during the return feeding.

摘要: An adjustable tool block assembly includes a housing, a rotatable eccentric sleeve mounted in the housing and a tool mounted on the axis of the internal surface of the sleeve. A clamp surrounds a portion of the rear end of the sleeve and is moved between operative and inoperative positions by a fluid motor. A second fluid motor moves the clamp when in operative position and hence, rotates the sleeve to change the effective cutting radius of the tool.

摘要: A thread cutting device for a slide lathe comprising a tool holder support member constructed of a guide member and a slide member reciprocatingly slidable with respect to each other and mounted at a pre-determined oblique angle with respect to the axis of rotation of the lathe spindle whereby the members move in a straight line movement at the oblique angle. SPring biased latch means normally lock the guide and slide members against relative movement when the tool is in a work cutting position. Stop means are connected to the support member to release the latch means to permit the guide and slide members to move relative to each other to cause the cutting tool to move out of engagement with a workpiece and stop continued feed of the tool at a position where the cutting operation is to be terminated.

摘要: A thread cutting attachment for use with conventional type engine lathes for the purpose of semiautomatically cutting threads externally on a workpiece, or with a modified embodiment, internally of a workpiece. Each attachment has structure for securely affixing same to the conventional cutting tool holder of such a lathe. A main body of the attachment has a movable cutting tool holder therewithin. The cutting tool holder is suitably actuated through mechanical means from the energization of a fluid cylinder having a piston with rod extending therefrom. Suitable fluid control structure is connected to this fluid cylinder for actuation thereof under the control of either electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic control apparatus. The present invention cuts threads like the old conventional thread cutting method, except in the method of the present invention, the single point thread cutting tool automatically disengages after the thread cutting stroke, and the cutting tool automatically engages at the beginning of the thread cutting stroke. The present invention eliminates the need for quickly disengaging the cutting tool manually at the end of the thread cutting stroke. The present invention does not need an undercut in the workpiece, thus allowing the cutting tool to cut dead end threads internally or externally.
