Abstract:
A sheet fabrication machine is equipped with different servo motors for actuating its upper tool and its lower die. A direction converting mechanism is provided to each of the tool assembly and the die assembly so as to convert the non-vertical forces output by the servo motors into vertical forces that enable the tool and die to move relative to each other to effect work on a workpiece placed therebwtween. The sheet fabrication machine is moreover equipped with a system and logic for automatically measuring the length of the tool and for providing a setting from which the operation of the tool can be referenced. Additional features provisioned into the sheet fabrication machine include look ahead functions for optimizing the operational speed of the machine while minimizing the noise generated as a result of the operation. Also included in the sheet fabrication machine are energy saving features and automatic control of the temperature of the machine to prevent any potential damage thereto due to overheating.
Abstract:
A ram descends due to its own weight and pressure of a rod-side cylinder chamber of a hydraulic cylinder which vertically moves the ram is detected by an oil pressure detector. A determination section detects a position at which a punch attached to the ram contacts an upper surface of a workpiece, based upon a change in the detected pressure. When the upper surface of the workpiece is detected, a plate thickness calculation section calculates a plate thickness of the workpiece based on an upper surface position of a die, that is known in advance and stored in a memory.
Abstract:
A support medium is capable of being read by a numerical control system of a bending machine. The support medium stores program instructions for searching, in a memory region storing at least one group of data, each containing bending conditions, a bend angle and at least one penetration depth, whether input data including a desired bend angle and bending conditions are stored in the memory region, in a same group of data. The support medium sends a signal to the bending machine so that the bending machine executes a bending according to the penetration depth included in the same group of data.
Abstract:
The method for quality assurance of crimping connections made by a crimping device having an exchangeable tool with two tool parts uses a tool that is provided with an electronic data storage device. The electronic data storage device stores tool-specific nominal data derived from a nominal force-stroke characteristic line of a nominal crimping action of the tool. A crimp connector is fastened to the end of an electrical cable by placing the end of the electrical cable and the crimp connector between the two tool parts and moving the two tool parts relative to one another for carrying out the crimping action. The force-stroke characteristic line of the two tool parts is measured during the crimping action. The measured force-stroke characteristic line is compared to the stored nominal data.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a method and an apparatus for truing “pressed-together crankshafts” of the type found in multiple-cylinder-engines such as those used in personal watercrafts and snowmobiles. The truing of these crankshafts is effected by a truing tool comprised of a set of lockable V-block-type holding means, a hinging movable shelf so equipped as to cause one of the lockable V-block-type holding means to move the crankshaft alternatively into a measuring position and a truing position, a cam-operated lever, sliding position detection means and a top-mounted clamp, all of which are attached, directly or indirectly, to a rigid supporting base. The set of lockable V-block-type holding means is designed in accordance with the dimensions of the bearings and the journals of the crankshaft. The crankshaft is trued by placing it on the lockable V-block-type holding means and setting the truing tool on the measuring position, then detecting the location and degree of out-of-tolerance distortion with respect to the rotating axis of the crankshaft as it rotates, setting the truing tool on the truing position, and finally applying the required forces to the distorted portions until the crankshaft is straight. The measuring-and-truing cycle can be repeated as many times as necessary or desirable, all without removing the crankshaft from the truing apparatus.
Abstract:
A plate thickness detector for a bending machine causes a punch to make a relative stroke and bend a workpiece mounted on an upper surface of a die cooperatively by the punch and the die. A displacement gauge is provided in the die, is always urged upward from a V-groove of the die, and measures a distance from the upper surface of the die to a lower surface of the workpiece. A ram position detector detects a relative stroke quantity of the punch to the die. The punch is caused to bend the workpiece from a position away from the die by a reference inter-blade distance. A plate thickness arithmetic operation section inputs the relative stroke quantity of the punch at a point at which descent of the workpiece is detected by the displacement gauge or a predetermined point after the point, inputs the displacement quantity of the displacement gauge at this time using ram position detector, and detects the plate thickness of the workpiece by subtracting the detected relative stroke quantity from the reference inter-blade distance and adding the displacement quantity detected by the displacement gauge to the subtraction result.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for monitoring the carry through state of a mechanical press is disclosed. Actual slide displacement curves under load conditions are continually generated for the press being monitored. Values of rebound height, rebound count, and rebound number for the press slide may then be determined and utilized as indicators of the carry through state of the press. Measured values of rebound height, rebound count, and rebound number can then be displayed and used as indicators that the energy of the slide should be increased to bring the press closer to a carry through state.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for automated control and positioning of a mandrel within a pipe during bending operations. Position detection is accomplished by means of a low frequency electromagnetic signal transmission from a coil placed in close proximity parallel to the pipe outer surface. This signal is detected by a pair of orthogonal receiving coils mounted on the mandrel in close proximity to the pipe inner surface. The phases of the received signals with respect to the transmitted signal and the ratio of the amplitudes of the two received signals is used to estimate the relative position of the transmitter and the receivers. Control of the mandrel along with transmission of reference phase information is accomplished via a high frequency direct sequence spread spectrum radio link between a computer console outside the pipe mounted on the bender and a computer unit mounted inside the pipe on the mandrel.
Abstract:
A crimping press having a motor, a gear and first guides, at which a crimping ram is guided, arranged at a frame. A shaft driven by the gear has an eccentric spigot at one end and a resolver for the detection of the rotary angle coupled on at the other end. The crimping ram includes a sliding member guided in the first guides and a tool holder with force sensor and retaining fork. The sliding member stands in loose connection with the eccentric spigot, wherein the rotational movement of the eccentric spigot is translated into a linear movement of the sliding member. The tool holder usually actuates a tool which, together with an anvil belonging to the tool, produces the crimped connection. For calibration of the force sensor, a crimping simulator is used in place of the tool. For input of operational data and commands to a control, an operating terminal has a rotary knob and a keyboard. A display is provided for visualization of data. During the production of crimped connections, the quality of the crimped connections is checked by reference to a curve of the crimping force.
