A lathe 1 comprises a bed 5, a headstock 10 having a housing 13 and a support base 14, a main spindle 11, a first tool rest 44, and a second tool rest 50. The support base 14 is formed so as to have a concave portion 14a on the upper portion thereof and so that the upper portion protrudes toward the second tool rest 50. The tool rest body 51 of the second tool rest 50 is configured so as to be movable into and out of a space formed downward from the upper portion of the support base 14. The housing 13 has a holding hole 13a for rotatably holding the main spindle 11, and installation portions 13b. The installation portions 13b are supported on the support base 14 in a state wherein a predetermined clearance is provided between the housing 13 and the concave portion 14a.
Abstract:
A ceramic layer system including at least two layers having respective ion conductivities which are substantially different includes a substrate layer composed of a ceramic material and having substantially no ion conductivity; and at least one conducting layer positioned adjacent to the substrate layer, containing coated ceramic particles composed of ceramic particles composed of a ceramic material having no substantial ion conductivity which are coated with a material having a substantial ion conductivity so that each conducting layer of the at least one conducting layer has a continuous phase after sintering composed of the material which has a substantial ion conductivity and so that the at least one conducting layer has an ion conductivity effective to conduct ions. A method of producing a gas sensor for detecting small quantities of at least one gas in gas mixtures includes providing a substrate layer composed of ceramic particles composed of a material having substantially no ion conductivity; applying a layer composed of coated ceramic particles onto the substrate layer, the coated ceramic particles being composed of ceramic particles composed of a material that has no substantial ion conductivity coated with a material which has a substantial ion conductivity at the operating temperature of the gas sensor; applying at least one functional layer onto the layer composed of coated ceramic particles to provide a green body; preheating the green body to remove binding agents, plastifying agents, and any additional organic constituents; and sintering the green body after preheating by heating to a temperature effective to sinter the green body so that the layer comprised of coated ceramic particles has a continuous phase comprised of the material which has a substantial ion conductivity.
Abstract:
An inner blade (15) for use in a reciprocating type electric shaver, including at least two support members (17) and a plurality of inner blade elements (16) mounted on the at least two support members (17). The inner blade element (16) having a pair of a first blade tip portion (19) and a second blade tip portion (19') is formed by folding, a blank (24) having a profile symmetrical with respect to a line (L), along the line (L) into a pair of a first inner blade element portion (18) and a second inner blade element portion (18') such that the first inner blade element portion (18) is brought into close contact with the second inner blade element portion (18').
Abstract:
A reciprocating tool, such as a sander, which may be driven by a rotary pneumatic motor via an eccentric connection with a gear train. In order to balance the dynamic forces generated by the reciprocating tool element, a weight may be properly positioned within the tool housing and driven by a similar eccentric connection to a gear train. Proper coordination of the gear train will result in the movement of the tool element and the weight in opposite directions at any given instant, thereby increasing the operator's ability to maintain the tool in a desired path of movement.
Abstract:
A lathe bed includes a steel reinforced concrete body with a torsionally flexible frame and means for rigidly connecting the ends of the frame to the body. The frame includes track members for a tool carrier. In one embodiment, the frame is made of two elongated box-like side members and two transverse column guide members, the side members being fixedly attached as by screws to the concrete body and the column guide members being fixedly attached to the side members. In another embodiment, one side member is used and the two column members extend between the side member and a wall portion of the body at the other end. The body is shaped to permit clearance for turnings removed from a workpiece and for a multiple tool magazine. The headstock, feed drive, longitudinal slides and tailstock are mounted on the frame. The body contributes rigidity to the otherwise torsionally flexible frame to produce a rigid and sturdy unitary lathe bed.

The machining tool may be performing dressing, chamfering or grooving operations.
Abstract:
A machine tool frame mounts and carries machine tool components which face each other with a working space between them. The frame is made of compression reinforced concrete. The compression reinforcement establishes compression preloading in the frame between the machine tool components and partly around the working space.
