摘要: A debarking chain having passing links; the passing links being substantially rounded in order to permit the passing links to pass through adjacent links such that the orientation of the passing link relative to its adjacent links can change at random in order to randomly distribute the wear and stress from the impact of adjacent or next to adjacent links on the passing links so that the overall wear life of the present debarking chain is extended over similar chain with elongated, oblong links of the prior art. The invention also includes a debarking drum having a plurality of debarking chains having at least one, preferably a plurality of passing links, as well as a debarking device having such a debarking drum. The debarking device preferably includes a chipping device and a method of using the same.

摘要: A method and apparatus for hydraulically debarking logs is disclosed, in which water at a substantially constant, ultra high pressure of, say, at least 25,000 KPa, is caused to impinge upon, generally radially with respect to, the surface of a log to be debarked. The apparatus of a preferred embodiment has ultra high pressure nozzles mounted upon resilient members circumferentially surrounding the log to be debarked, the members being biassed radially inwardly of the leg to bear upon the undulating surface thereof, and to maintain the nozzles at a predetermined distance therefrom, thereby maintaining the impinging water at a constant ultra high pressure.

摘要: A debarking mechanism for the excortication or pretreatment of trees for separately performed final barking and for the expulsion of at least some of the removed barks from a wood flow passing through the debarking mechanism, the debarking mechanism including a number of rotatable debarking shafts extending parallel to an advancing direction (A) of the trees to be fed therethrough, which are provided with a number of teeth extending beyond the circumferential surface of the shaft and adapted to strip bark off the presently processed trees transversely to the lengthwise direction of the trees and at the same time to convey the trees transversely relative to said shafts, and the shafts together with the teeth thereof, being adapted to constitute at least a section of a support surface, upon which the presently processed trees travel through the debarking mechanism, and the debarking shafts being adapted to each other in such a way that the presently processed trees make a circular motion (C) in the debarking mechanism, in which motion the trees are forced upon the support surface constituted by the debarking shafts effected by the rotatory motion of the debarking shafts in their turn into the upper position, from which they roll down above the other trees in the debarking machine into the lower position. The uppermost debarking shaft has been fitted together with a guiding surface, the surface together with the uppermost debarking shaft forming a slot convergent in the direction of rotation of the debarking shaft.

摘要: An apparatus for adjustably profiling a cant comprising a first and second shaft rotatably mounted on a first and second frame, respectively. A first and second pair of laterally spaced apart profiling heads are slidably and rotatably mounted on the first and second shaft, respectively. Corresponding pairs of linear positioners laterally translate the first and second laterally spaced apart heads so that each profiling head in each pair of profiling heads may be independently translated relative to the other to set spacing, and then each pair may be sleeved cooperatively in unison. The pairs of profiling heads may be vertically displaced relative to the longitudinal centreline of a cant. The profiling heads remove notches from the wane corners of the cant.

摘要: At the site where trees are freshly felled, the disclosed apparatus by means of a boom arm and claw, pulls the merchantable portions of one or more tree stems through a cutting head assembly. The tree stems are topped by a topping saw removing their unmerchantable tops. The merchantable portion of the tree stems fall by gravity into a guide through and are pushed through a flail mechanism which completely removes the smaller supple limbs and remaining bark missed by the cutter head assembly. The merchantable tree stems are then extracted by the boom arm from the flail mechanism and stacked or loaded on a truck to be taken to a lumber mill. Single tree stems of large diameter, multiple smaller diameter tree stems, and tree stems of hardwood or softwood may be processed by the disclosed invention. The freshly felled tree stems are grasped by the boom arm claw and put through the disclosed apparatus without letting go. This yields an efficient and quick processing method. The protection covering of the flail mechanism provides a safer environment for workers and a more efficient debarking and delimbing device which renders a tree stem ready for processing at a lumber mill.

摘要: A flail type apparatus (10) for removing limbs and/or bark from trees (101) by dragging the trees through the apparatus with a skidder (100) is described. In particular, drum 15 and 23 are mounted on the apparatus such that there is an opening A leading to space B between the drums allowing rotating chain flails 19 and 26 mounted on the drums to remove the bark and/or limbs.
