Abstract:
A filtering arrangement of thermoplastics extruding apparatus has a rotatable cylindrical screen unit through which material flows radially inwards and is discharged axially and an outlet aperture for impurities which are washed from the screening unit by reverse flow, i.e. radially outward flow, of part of the filtered material. The outlet aperture for the impurities is variable in cross-section by moving an arcuate segment about the axis of the cylinder to control the extent of reverse flow washing.

A brickmaking press comprises a segmental ring, a brick shaping mold supported by the segmental ring in the mold cavity defined thereby, a clamping ring surrounding and enclosing the segmental ring, and the clamping and segmental rings defining an annular chamber maintained under fluid pressure.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the continuous filtration and flow of molten thermoplastic polymer from a melt source to a shaping apparatus. The apparatus is characterized by the employment of a melt reservoir whose level is regulated by a level control means. Melt flow to the shaping apparatus is regulated by the level control means which controls the flow rate from the melt source as a function of the level in the melt reservoir.
Abstract:
A device for expanding raw pneumatic tires built up in flat form and provided with two tire beads, which includes a rotatable axially non-displaceable shaft having axially slidably arranged therein an inner shaft with a first disc firmly connected to one end of the inner shaft while an outer shaft is axially slidably mounted on and surrounds the hollow shaft. That end of the outer shaft which is closest to the first disc has firmly connected thereto a second disc in cooperation with the first disc to receive therebetween the beads of the tire to be expanded and the inflatable bellows for expanding the tire to be shaped, an actuating mechanism being provided for selectively moving the first and second discs toward and away from each other.
Abstract:
A mixing of mixing machine comprises a mixer body having a mixing chamber and a material inlet through which a material to be mixed is loaded into the chamber, a fluid-operated cylinder having a piston rod on which a floating weight is mounted for movement together with the piston rod between lifted and lowered positions, a support structure for supporting the cylinder for movement between an operative, in which the floating weight is in register with the material inlet, and a stand-by position in which the cylinder with the floating weight held in the lifted position is located laterally offset with respect to the material inlet, and a drive mechanism for moving the cylinder between the operative and stand-by positions.
Abstract:
A continuous foam production system is disclosed wherein a molten thermoplastic resin is mixed with volatile blowing agent at elevated pressure to form an extrusion mass. A helical screw extruder means is adapted to extrude the molten resin with volatile blowing agent into a low pressure foaming zone to form a foam sheet, tube or other shape. An improved fluid handling system includes storage means for holding at least one of a plurality of disparate volatile liquids under pressure sufficient to maintain a normally gaseous blowing agent in liquified state and cooling means for receiving a pressurized first stream of liquified thermally-gaseous blowing agent and cooling below its autogenous temperature. A pump operatively connected between the cooling means and extruder means increases pressure of the first stream higher than the elevated pressure of the extruder, where it may be combined with a pressurized stream of second liquid blowing agent. Flow control means is provided for injecting a predetermined amount of disparate liquid blowing agents from the first and second streams into the extruder means at elevated pressure to form an extrusion mass.
Abstract:
The invention provides apparatus for the production of cellular thermoplastic material comprising an extruder having a hollow barrel, screw means mounted in said barrel to advance material therethrough, mixer head means mounted in said barrel and gaseous blowing agent inlet means positioned in said barrel near the upstream end of said mixer head means, said mixer head means having in the surface thereof a plurality of alternate land and groove means, said land means having close clearance with the internal walls of said barrel near the upstream end thereof in the region of said blowing agent inlet means and alternately spaced and close clearance with said walls in the mixing region downstream of said blowing agent inlet means.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the production of moldings by activated anionic polymerization of lactams in which a lactam melt containing a catalyst and a lactam melt containing an activator are separately preheated to polymerization temperature in two melt reservoirs and supplied to a control unit including a pair of valves and a vertically oriented mixing chamber, mixed therein, and forced upwardly into the mold to be filled wherein valve seats for the respective valves are in the wall of said mixing chamber.
Abstract:
A mounting structure for the granulate hopper of the injection unit of an injection molding machine which is convertible for use with a selectively horizontally or vertically oriented injection unit, the structure comprising two joined, rotatable tubular connectors each with an oblique end face, the lower connector being seated on an inclined face of the mounting hub which holds the plastification cylinder, and the upper connector carrying the hopper. The latter consists of a conical lower hopper portion and a cylindrical upper hopper portion which is inclined against the former so as to have one common straight side line which is vertical in both configurations. Conversion adjustment is accomplished through rotation of the lower connector and of the hopper by 180.degree..
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for the production of materials preplasticized to their final density from high molecular weight powder-form completed mixtures, which are directly used as starting product for subsequent final processing, wherein the powder mixture is conveyed along a helical compression screw and subjected to accelerated compression and, at the same time, preplasticized at a temperature which corresponds to the material temperature required for final processing.
