Abstract:
A system for opening and closing a mixing manifold includes a drive motor, a cam plate, and a valving rod connector. The drive motor imparts movement in first and second directions. Movement imparted in the first direction causes the cam plate to move linearly in a third direction and movement imparted in the second direction causes the cam plate to move linearly in a fourth direction. Movement of the cam plate in the third direction causes the valving rod connector to move linearly in a fifth direction and movement of the cam plate in the fourth direction causes the valving rod connector to move linearly in a sixth direction. Movement of the valving rod connector in the fifth direction causes retraction of a valving rod of the mixing manifold and movement of the valving rod connector in the sixth direction causes extension of the valving rod.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process and device for polymerizing lactams in molds wherein the monomer, catalyst and initiator are independently fed to a mixing head feeding a mold. The system in turn comprises a series of feeding and recirculation conduits and reservoirs the temperature of which is regulated to perform the polymerization in a controlled manner.
Abstract:
Herein are disclosed an apparatus and method for reaction injection molding of polyurethane foam. In the method, a recirculation loop containing polyols along with an effective amount of water, and a recirculation loop containing isocyanates, are each partially evacuated.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for feeding a polyurethane mixture suitable to form a thermally insulating layer inside hollow bodies, such as hollow walls of a refrigerator cabinet, freezer, display counter or insulating panel. A polyurethane mixture resulting from chemically reactive components, supplied by a high-pressure mixing device, is injected into a cavity of a hollow body extending in a horizontal plain. The mixture is injected at a first flow-rate and a first injection speed, to be poured into a first deposition zone farthest from the injection point. Subsequently, the flow-rate and the injection speed of the polyurethane mixture are gradually reduced in a controlled manner, to be poured in successive deposition zones towards the injection point of the polyurethane mixture, along a distribution strip, allowing the injected mixture to spread out throughout the cavity of the hollow body along isometric expansion lines.

Abstract:
Cellular or compact polyurethane moldings are produced by conveying at least one isocyanate component and at least one polyol component by a metering machine in dispensing manner into a mixing chamber via component lines to form a polyurethane reaction mixture. Subsequently, the polyurethane reaction mixture is discharged from the mixing chamber into a mold. The pressures of the components are registered by means of pressure transducers in the component lines and are transmitted to a monitoring device. The temporal profiles of the pressures are compared with reference pressure values stored in the monitoring device. A malfunction is signalled in the event of deviation of at least one of the measured pressure profiles from the reference pressure profile beyond a predetermined tolerance threshold.
Abstract:
A process for reaction injection molding a polyurethane material for a layer of a golf ball is disclosed herein. The layer is preferably a cover for the golf ball. The process discloses preferred pressure parameters and mass flow parameters for reaction injection molding the layer. Such preferred pressure parameters include the difference from mix-head open to the shot mid-point, ΔΔPom, and the pressure difference from mix-head open to close, or ΔΔPoc. The mass flow parameters include the percentage change in mass flow ratio from mix-head open to shot mid-point, or % MFRom, and the change in mass flow ratio from mix-head open to shot mid-point, or ΔMFRom.
Abstract:
A system and method of making polyurethane skins for interior components is provided wherein a colorant/polyol mixture is injected into a polyurethane layer to provide color in the polyurethane layer. An in-mold coating may be applied to the mold over which the polyurethane layer is sprayed. The colorant/polyol mixture is combined to match the color of the in-mold coating. The colorant/polyol mixture is injected into the same spray applicator that dispenses polyol and isocyanate of a two part polyurethane forming mixture. The colorant may be selectively injected into the spray applicator to selectively provide color in the polyol and isocyanate composition that matches the color of the in-mold coating.

Abstract:
A two-component resin or adhesive dispensing system including an air drive motor with adjustable settings which drives, by means of sprocket and chain drive systems, an activator metering pump and an adhesive metering pump as to provide a dispenser with adjustable amounts of activator material and adhesive material. The metering pumps are mounted upon adjustably movable mounting brackets such that their relative disposition may be readily altered so as to accommodate different sized sprocket members which will then alter the drive output of the metering pumps in order to change the ratio of activator material dispensed with respect to the amount of resin or adhesive material dispensed.
