摘要: An image display device may take the form of an illuminating picture lamp providing means by which images may be illuminated by a light source on a selectable and removably attachable basis. Using a base layer of translucent material preferably circumscribed by a transparent material, an image may be slipped between the two layers and illuminated by a light source. The sheets are used to form a lampshade and are held in place about a light source, such as a light bulb, by supports threadably engaging a mounting base. The mounting base attaches to the lamp generally below the light bulb to provide stable support for the lampshade. The image display device of the present invention provides attractive and selectable means by which images may be illuminated by a light source and articles, such as lamp shades, may be decorated on a personalized basis.

摘要: A system for cleaning a moving substrate includes a rail mounted adjacent to the substrate surface and substantially transverse to the direction of movement thereof. A carriage for supporting a contact cleaning roller (CCR) is deployed on the rail for allowing axial translation of the CCR transversely of the substrate while in rolling contact therewith. Two renewal stations for cleaning the CCR are mounted adjacent the rail, one outboard of each substrate edge. The CCR is at least twice as long as the width of the substrate and is axially oscillable for a distance sufficient that all portions of the CCR surface may be cleaned by the renewal stations during one oscillation cycle of the CCR while the CCR maintains continuous contact with the substrate across the full width thereof. The CCR mounted on the carriage may be a primary CCR and the substrate may be a continuous web or sheet, or the CCR mounted on the carriage may be a secondary CCR and the substrate may be a primary CCR or other process roller.

摘要: In accordance with the present invention an elastomeric printing plate, with a printing surface finish that allows it to be used in flexographic printing, is grown by a method based on an inkjet process. By employing two different materials, one used as a removable filler, the printing plate is grown in inverted orientation with its printing surface against a modifying surface that modifies the growth of the printing plate and, in particular, ensures that the raised image on the printing plate has a smooth surface finish. The present invention allows the generation of a flexographic printing plate in a short time without the need for high power CO2 lasers and liquid processing steps.

摘要: A method of making printing plates for color newspaper printing almost free from causing color dislocation. The present invention includes an exposure step 12 of directly drawing a desired image on a plate material E from a plate feeding step 11 by laser beam according to image drawing signals from a computer, a development and fixing step 13 of treating the exposed surface to produce a printing plate 5 with the desired image, and a bending and boring step 14 of forming bent edge stoppers 5a, 5b at the two edges of the printing plate 5 for mounting the plate 5 on the plate cylinder 4 and at least one positioning hole 5c for positioning the plate 5 on the plate cylinder 4. In the exposure step 12, pilot marks P in a desired shape are drawn near the two edges of the plate material E at the same time that a desired image T is drawn on the image drawing area Q of the plate material E according to image drawing signals from the computer. The bending and boring step 14 involves providing standard marks S having the same shape and the same positional relation as the pilot marks P above the printing plate loading table 7 of the bending and boring unit, automatically checking the superimposition between the pilot marks P on the printing plate 5 placed on the printing plate loading table 7 and the standard marks S by detection signals from an image sensor camera 19 provided above each standard mark S so that when the superimposition dislocation between the standard marks P on the printing plate 5 and the standard marks S is found to be under a set value level, at least one positioning hole 5c as well as bent edge stoppers 5a, 5b are formed at the two edges of the printing plate 5.

摘要: A method of calculating engraving parameters for a gravure cylinder at a desired raster, cell shape and stylus angle given an estimate of the engraving parameters. The method includes inputting a set of initial parameters including an initial raster, an initial cell shape, an initial stylus angle, an initial highlight width, an initial shadow width, an initial channel width and an initial space. The method proceeds by calculating an initial value of a cell volume from the initial parameters. Next, a set of new parameters are inputted including a desired raster, an estimate of a desired highlight width, an estimate of a desired shadow width, an estimate of a desired channel width and an estimate of a desired space. Then, a new value of the cell volume is calculated from the new parameters. Using the volume calculation, the method can be used to: calculate a set of engraving parameters for a gravure cylinder at a new ink cut, calculate the amount of ink solution that a given gravure cylinder will use in making a specified number of impressions, determine the total cost associated with making a specified number of impressions and determine the optimal cell geometry for a gravure cylinder.
