A process for the preparation of printing plates from electrophotographic reproduction material, having a support suitable for printing purposes and a photoconductive layer thereon, by charging, imagewise exposure to light, developing the latent electrostatic image on the layer with a finely divided toner, subsequent heating, and removal of the photoconductive layer in the nonimage areas. The latent electrostatic image is produced on a layer which contains at least one known polymerizable organic photoconductor containing or forming during heating olefinic double bonds, and the image is made visible by means of a developer which, at least partially, consists of one or more finely divided solid substances forming radicals when heated. The reproduction material with the developed image thereon is heated to a temperature between 50* and 300* C., preferably to a temperature between 100* and 200* C., and finally the organic photoconductive layer is removed, in known manner, in the nonimage areas by dissolving it away.

The disclosed electrostatically imaged lithographic plate employs a conductive paper substrate to which is applied a top coat consisting of photoconductive zinc oxide particles dispersed in a resin binder system comprising a synergistic mixture of a styrenated alkyd resin, a polyvinyl methyl ether homopolymer resin, and either a low molecular weight polystyrene resin or a low molecular weight petroleum hydrocarbon resin. The plate is imaged electrostatically, developed and then subjected to an improved conversion etch solution designed to render the nonimage areas of the plate hydrophilic; the image areas remaining hydrophobic and oleophilic.

A transfer sheet for use in a thermographic transfer process in which the color forming component of the transfer material is a tetrakis(p-dimethylaminophenyl)ethylene salt. The salt is initially infrared translucent, but upon heating darkens to a substantially black color. Copy sheets, carrying solventtransferred salt from a thermographically produced master, are heated to darken the salt, thereby producing black on white copies.

A photographic material which comprises a receiving element for transferred dyes is provided. The receiving element comprises a support having coated thereon a mordant layer which is made from a graft polymer prepared from gelatin, a monomer which when homopolymerized yields a water insoluble polymer and a monomer containing a sulphonate group which when homopolymerized yields a water soluble polymer.These receiving elements can be used for mordanting cationic dyes in photographic dye transfer processes.

A process for manufacturing a thermographic plate is disclosed, wherein a sensitive layer comprised of liquid crystals, is associated to a heat guiding layer made of latex and producing a screen effect perpendicularly to said sensitive layer. The thermographic plate is used for diagnosis of several cutaneous and subcutaneous affections. The invention relates also to the thermographic plate itself as well as to thermographic recording device comprising said thermographic plate and a fixture connecting at an adjustable distance said plate with a photographic camera.
