摘要： A method and system for sharing robotic mechanisms between physically remote storage libraries in an automated storage library system includes routing robotic mechanism guide structures between the storage libraries. The guide structures run through robotic mechanism transfer ports located on the sides of the housing enclosures of the storage libraries. A robotic mechanism within an first storage library moves through the transfer port of the enclosure of the first storage library onto the guide structure. The robotic mechanism then moves out of the enclosure of the first storage library along the guide structure towards a second storage library. The robotic mechanism then moves along the guide structure through the transfer port of the enclosure of the second storage library and into the second storage library for performing operations such as accessing media objects within the second storage library.

摘要： An accessor device for a tape library has two accessor bases movably mounted on two parallel guide rails extending along a plurality of cells housing tapes. The accessor bases have, on respective confronting portions thereof, overlapping edges which overlap each other in a direction normal to the longitudinal direction of the guide rails when the accessor bases move toward each other. The accessor device mounted on the two parallel guide rails is prevented from falling, and the accessor devices with the overlapping edges has a wide accessible area for accessing endmost regions in the tape library.

摘要： Bi-directional magazine and trays are disclosed. The bi-directional magazine and trays are used in double-picker automated storage library in which the double-pickers can never collide. The bi-directional magazine enables a double-picker to retrieve storage cartridges from either side of a magazine. The bi-directional magazine includes a tray for supporting a storage device removably mounted in a magazine, the storage tray being removable from a first end of the magazine and from a second end of the magazine, opposite from the first end. The storage tray may include a plurality of such storage trays. Each tray includes an engagement configuration on opposing ends of the tray for engaging with a picker mechanism for allowing the picker mechanism to pull the tray from the magazine at the first end or the second end of the magazine. The bi-directional magazine further includes a retention device for retaining the tray within the magazine, a magazine engagement device for allowing a picker mechanism to remove the magazine from the storage bin, and a bin engagement device for retaining the magazine in stationary relationship with the storage bin.
