摘要: A device for retaining garden beds, retaining water, and/or blocking plant roots, with the device having two connected reinforcing members with a liquid permeable member positioned between the reinforcing members. A method of building a garden bed includes using the device around the perimeter of a bed. A method for building a pond or stream includes using the device around the perimeter of the pond or stream. Finally, a method of blocking root travel includes burying the device to block travel.

摘要: A method is provided for forming an interconnected underground structure which avoids settling of adjacent soil structure. A plurality of underground support columns is initially formed, with the support columns being spaced apart in a predetermined pattern. Interconnecting holes are thereafter formed between the underground support columns, wherein the interconnecting holes are formed by mechanically cutting the soil and simultaneously hydraulically mixing the mechanically cut soil with slurry injected at velocities of 200 feet per second or higher while maintaining a positive hydrostatic head in the hole relative to adjacent soil. As the interconnecting holes are being formed, the diameter of each interconnecting hole is extended by positioning a second high velocity slurry nozzle near the outer diameter of the interconnecting hole which injects high velocity into the adjacent soil to hydraulically cut the adjacent soil and mix it with the slurry. The high velocity slurry injected through the second nozzle penetrates the surface of the adjacent underground support columns and forms an impermeable underground support wall. The method may be used to treat and stabilize highly toxic underground plumes.

摘要: A system and method for producing a low specific gravity liquid from underground storage. The system includes a subterranean cavern and a sump in fluid communication with a floor of the cavern. A bottom intake ESP system is deployed to draw liquid from the sump to fully drain the cavern without vaporizing the liquid at the pump intake.

摘要: In an automatic document feeder for use in an image forming device such as copy machine and facsimile machine: a document shunting path for temporarily shunting a document is provided at an upstream side of a document reading portion; in a different-size mixed mode where different sizes of documents are placed in a mixed manner, the leading edge and rear edge of the document are detected by a sensor during conveyance of the document in the direction toward the document reading portion, so that the length of the document is detected; thereafter the document is conveyed in the reverse direction so that the rear edge of the document is shunted into the document shunting path; and thereafter the document is again conveyed in the forward direction to conduct reading. Thus, it becomes unnecessary to provide a longer conveyance path for detecting the length of the documents, so that the size of the feeder itself can be reduced.

摘要: A fluid containment basin having ridges located in the bottom of the basin and furrows adjacent to the ridges to facilitate maintenance of the basin using the naturally occurring forces of gravity, wave action and fluid currents. The ridges can be formed from material taken from the furrows into shapes that facilitate wave action against the sides of the ridges. While the fluid level is above the ridges, sediment settles on the ridges and furrows, reducing the permeability of the ridges and furrows and, therefore, the drainage from the basin. Wave action against the sides of the ridges as the fluid level is lowered washes the sediments off the ridges into the furrows, thereby restoring the permeability of the ridges. The wave action can be wind generated or induced by a wave mechanism. The furrows can be allowed to become impermeable or be lined to prevent contaminates from migrating.

摘要: A below-grade, modular cast concrete containment vault which contains one or more primary liquid storage tanks. Dispensing pumps and sundry conduits and support equipment are attached to or supported within a cast cover. The cover is secured to the tanks. The pumps can be coupled to a remote control and communications kiosk. A manhole permits access to a ventilated secondary containment and inspection space within a base unit. Spill and overflow containment assemblies surround fill and vent pipes in the cover and direct spillage to the secondary storage space. Tertiary and auxiliary containment is also provided for spillage from the dispensing pumps and backup storage for the overflow containment assemblies. Additional standpipes communicate with the base and support additional monitoring and inspection equipment.

摘要: The present invention provides a multi-connected ampoules dispensing apparatus which is compact and have a high operation reliability. The dispensing portion 3 comprises a pair of rotors 8a, 8b each of which has a substantially C shape of cross section and is formed with a cutting edge 10 on one side edge. The rotors 8a, 8b are disposed in a vertical direction with a predetermined distance. The rotors 8a, 8b are synchronized to rotate from a receiving position to a cut-off position and return to the receiving position, whereby in the receiving position the rotors 8a, 8b can receive the first ampoule 4a and then cut off and dispense it. The second ampoule 4b adjacent to the first ampoule 4a is positioned in the waiting position by the positioning member 9 synchronized with the dispensing portion 3.

摘要: A compressed gas storage tank 10 utilizes a rock-bed cavity 11 in which a bentonite slurry is fed into an underground cavity 11 formed in a rock-bed, a forcibly fed compressed gas is stored in the rock-bed cavity in a state in which the compressed gas is loaded with a pressure load of the bentonite slurry from the underside of the compressed gas, the bentonite slurry in the rock-bed cavity 11 is of a dual layer structure consisting of an upper layer composed of a light bentonite slurry 30 mixed with a filling-up material invading into and filling up a void and a crack formed in an inner wall surface of the rock-bed cavity and a lower layer composed of a heavy bentonite slurry 13 mixed with a high specific gravity fine powder as a load condition material. The filling-up effect of the bentonite slurry secures sufficient liquid-tightness and air-tightness in the ceiling part of the rock-bed cavity, making it possible to efficiently and economically store compressed gases such as compressed air or natural gas without allowing them to escape.
