    摘要: A lignin-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin for use as an adhesive for particulate wood products is disclosed which is prepared by reacting phenol and formaldehyde with an aqueous alkaline solution of an organosolv lignin. The organosolv lignin used in the formation of the resin is obtained from a pulping liquor prepared from particulate wood material from hardwood trees, aqueous polar organic solvent, and an acid catalyst. The resin allows for replacement of phenol or organosolv lignin at a level of up to 40% without detrimentally affecting its performance in terms of bonding strength or durability. The resin of the present invention is also superior to prior art lignin-modified resins in that it is low in sulfate, ash and sulfur residues, and thus will not give off distracting or harmful sulfur odors during resin preparation or hot-pressing of the adhesive and is unaffected and not solubilized by water.

    摘要: Water-dilutable resinous products are obtained by reacting(A) a resin having at least one phenolic hydroxyl group and a free position ortho and/or para to a phenolic hydroxyl group, and containing a residue formed by polymerization of a vinyl monomer in the resin or in a precursor thereof,(B) an aldehyde, and(C) sulphurous acid or an organic acid containing a primary or secondary amino group or a mercaptan group and a carboxylic, sulphonic or phosphonic acid group, or a water-soluble salt thereof.Aqueous compositions containing the resinous products and, if required, and aminoplast, a phenoplast or a blocked polyisocyanate, usually together with a minor amount of an organic solvent, are useful in the formation of surface coatings.

    摘要: Cathodically depositable electrodeposition paint binders comprising a mixture of (A) 95-50% by weight of the reaction product of an epoxy resin with at least two epoxy groups with amines carrying primary amino groups and, optionally, with a carboxylic acid compound to provide an epoxy resin-amino adduct which is then reacted with a phenol and formaldehyde; and (B) 5-50% by weight of an addition component which is substantially water-insoluble under the conditions of electrodeposition and being compatible with Component A. The presence of Component B in the binder provides increased resistance to corrosion, improvements in the surface quality of the stoved films, and enhanced crosslinking of the binder.

    摘要: The production of amine resins having Mannich base groups which dissolve in water with the aid of a solubilizing acid is disclosed in which a dihydric phenolic organic compound, such as a bisphenol, is reacted in organic solvent medium with at least 3 moles of formaldehyde per mol of bisphenol to at least partially methylolate the bisphenol prior to other reactions. The at least partially methylolated product is then reacted with a stoichiometric deficiency of organic diepoxide, and then with monosecondary amine to provide Mannich base groups. The Mannich base-containing product is then reacted with additional epoxide-functional material.
