    摘要: A rail joint assembly joining the ends of two rails together includes a pair of joint bars. Each joint bar having one side configured to the rail web side. Mechanical fasteners mount the joint bars to the web sides. Pairs of load bearing keys are embedded in web counter bores at predetermined depths into the webs and embedded in adjacent joint bar counter bores at predetermined depths into the joint bars. The pairs of keys in the webs and the joint bars transfer railway loads through the joint and substantially strengthen the rail joint assembly.

The device includes a layer of electrically non-conductive material forming a boot that encloses the base of the rail where the rail passes over its support. This insulating boot extends upwardly on opposite sides of the rail web and outwardly therefrom to form long surface electrical creepage paths between the rail and the rail support that provide electrical isolation even when the entire assembly of rail, boot and rail support is wet with electrolyte.

    摘要: Method of forming adhesively bonded rail joint which is quick to assemble and easy to dismantle and reassemble. The face of each joint bar of the rail joint has a layer of thermoplastic adhesive which upon moderate heating adheres strongly under moderate pressure to conforming surfaces of the rail ends. Because the thermoplastic adhesive does not cure, the joint bars are easily separated from the rails by reheating the adhesive and can be reapplied or used as part of a new rail joint.
