The whole drilling equipment is arranged to turn in a plane parallel to the plane of the brackets of the dredger's boom, and the drilling machine itself together with its drill-propulsion unit is arranged to turn in a plane perpendicular to said brackets' plane.     摘要: A process for establishing a clear, generally horizontal borehole path in a subterranean formation includes drilling a generally horizontal borehole using a drill pipe, drill bit and an uphole drilling device and lubricating the drill bit and pipe by pumping a mud down the center of the drill pipe in sufficient quantity to carry cuttings, created by the drilling, from the horizontal borehole using a mud capable of creating a cake on the borehole wall. Throughout drilling of the borehole, the total solids content of the efflux is adjusted to preselected levels and recirculated through the drill pipe to continually create the borehole wall cake. After drilling, the drill bit and drill rod are removed and the drilling bit replaced with a casing shoe. Thereafter, the drill pipe is reinserted into the borehole with a liner therein. After inserting the liner to a preselected distance, the drill pipe and casing shoe are withdrawn from the borehole while holding the liner in the generally horizontal borehole to create a clear path therethrough.

    摘要: A method for collecting gas from subterranean formations having a plurality of spaced-apart coal seams containing methane gas includes the steps of drilling a shaft from the earth's surface to a depth sufficient to intersect a plurality of seams containing gas and thereunder to create a sump. A plurality of generally horizontal holes are drilled from the shaft into selected seams and gases collected from the boreholes and conducted through the shafts to the earth's surface. Apparatus, including a movable and rotatable platform, is lowered to a position adjacent the coal seam containing methane gas and an array of generally horizontal holes drilled from the platform into each of the coal seams from which methane gas is to be collected. Liners are inserted in each of the boreholes and interconnected through a riser for conducting the methane gas to the earth's surface. The method and apparatus of the invention enables the collection of methane gas from spaced-apart subterranean seams having narrow thickness.

    摘要: An attitude control device has a plurality of harmonic drive mechanisms of the hollow type, preferably first and second harmonic drive mechanisms. First and second rotational members are connected to the outputs of the first and second harmonic drive mechanisms. These rotational members have eccentric hollow portions which rotate eccentrically around the rotational axes of the harmonic drive mechanisms. A member to be driven is placed to extend through the eccentric hollow portions such that it is supportedly contacted with the inner surfaces of the eccentric hollow portions. In operation, the eccentric hollow portions are rotated relative to each other, whereby the member to be driven is controllably oriented to a desired direction.The attitude control device can be employed as a drilling-direction control device wherein a rotational drill shaft is supported by inner surfaces of eccentric hollow portions of first and second rotational members. These rotational members are rotated by first and second harmonic drive mechanisms. By rotating the eccentric hollow portions, the rotational drilling shaft is changed in orientation from the vertical direction.

    摘要: A concrete forming structure for culverts, tunnels, elevator shafts and the like, having side panels and chamfered corners. Novel two-way hinge assemblies are provided adjacent the chamfered corners and comprise two hinges and an angle iron disposed therebetween. The hinges are attached to confronting marginal faces of side panel sections and corner panel sections. Means are provided for holding the panel sections in a predetermined position to facilitate the pouring of the concrete and with the means being releasable. The panel sections and hinges are cooperable to allow the panel section to collapse and move after release of the means for allowing the panel section to be readily disengaged from the thus formed poured concrete. The hinges are lockable in a forming configuration.

    摘要: A method and machine for removing blockage and silt from abandoned auger holes preparatory to mining a portion of the remaining ore or preparatory to the placement of charges in said holes. Initially, the highwall is faced up by removing blockage proximate and external to the auger hole as with conventional earth moving equipment. The blockage from within the mouth of the auger hole is removed to expose blockage deposited within the auger hole at locations spaced from the auger hole mouth. Blockage at locations spaced from the auger hole mouth is removed by a apparatus which collapses to penetrate the blockage and is deployed to engage the blockage such that as the machine is withdrawn from the auger hole, the blockage is removed therewith. A device is provided for completing the auger hole cleaning operation by entraining silt or other contaminates in a stream of water and collecting the silt laden water which is transported and discharged at a remote location.
