摘要： Within an exhaust duct are positioned a plurality of concentrically arranged, open ended, right cylinders supported axially within the exhaust duct, wherein each of the cylinders includes an inlet end and an exit end. The inlet ends are positioned in sequential downstream order from the outermost of the cylinders to the innermost of the cylinders. The cylinders are graduated in length sequentially with the outermost cylinder being shortest in length and the innermost cylinder being longest in length. The inlet ends of each of the cylinders provide a circular leading edge with a sawtooth conformation. An elongated smooth rod is positioned on the longitudinal axis of the exhaust duct with a downstream end of the rod providing a flared portion positioned at the mouth of the innermost of the cylinders. A plurality of radially directed flow directing vanes are engaged along thier outer edge with an inside surface of the exhaust duct and also along an inside edge with each of the cylinders and the rod for securing them in place within the exhaust duct. These flow directing vanes extend upstream of the outermost of the cylinders and downstream of the innermost of the cylinders.

摘要： A hanger with swivel arm is adapted for securing a portion of an exhaust system such as a muffler, for example, to an undercarriage of automobile. In a preferred embodiment, the hanger incorporates an arm including a proximal end and a distal end, a bushing defining an orifice, and a retaining member. Preferably, the orifice is adapted for receiving the proximal end of the arm so that the proximal end is retainable by the bushing and rotatable therein, such as through an arc of 360°. The retaining member is configured to mount to the frame member of the automobile so that the bushing is fixedly retained thereby. So provided, the arm may be secured to a portion of the exhaust system so that the exhaust system is securely retained by the undercarriage of the automobile. Methods also are provided.

摘要： A muffler includes an upstream outer shell, a downstream outer shell, and identical upstream and downstream inner baffles forming in combination an upstream expansion chamber, an inner expansion chamber, and a downstream expansion chamber. The upstream and downstream inner baffles divide the inner expansion chamber therebetween into a main chamber and first and second laterally spaced subchambers. The upstream and downstream inner baffles have respective sets of apertures therethrough laterally offset from each other and aligned with respective subchambers and communicating exhaust from the upstream expansion chamber through the set of apertures in the upstream inner baffle into the first subchamber and then flowing laterally through the main chamber to the second subchamber and then flowing through the second set of apertures into the downstream expansion chamber. Each of the upstream and downstream inner baffles has a second set of apertures and drawn portions providing an oppositely directed bypass flow passage relieving backpressure.

The peripheral wall of the cylindrical baffle has closely spaced perforations over most of its length. Exhaust gases enter the frustroconical baffle and exit through the perforations therein, move axially in the casing thereabout, and then pass through the apertures into the cylindrical baffle.
