Abstract: A rotary engine casing having at least one end wall of an internal cavity for a rotor including a seal-engaging plate sealingly engaging the peripheral wall to partially seal the internal cavity and a member mounted adjacent the seal-engaging plate outside of the internal cavity. The member and seal-engaging plate having abutting mating surfaces which cooperate to define between them at least one fluid cavity communicating with a source of liquid coolant. When the casing includes a plurality of rotor housings, the end wall may be between rotor housings. A method of manufacturing a rotary engine casing is also discussed.

Abstract: A rotary engine with an outer body having an insert located in the peripheral offset from the rotor cavity such that a portion of the peripheral wall extends between the insert and the cavity. The insert has a pilot subchamber defined therein and the portion of the peripheral wall has at least one opening defined therethrough in communication with the at least one outlet opening of the insert and with the cavity. A method of combusting fuel into a rotary engine is also discussed.

Abstract: A rotor for a Wankel engine including a plurality of ribs extending from a bearing support to each one of the flanks, the plurality of ribs including, for each flank, first and second ribs connected to the flank between the recess and a respective one of the apex portions. Also, a rotary engine where the rotor cavity has a peripheral inner surface having a peritrochoid configuration defined by an eccentricity, and a rotor with a peripheral outer surface between adjacent ones of the apex portions being inwardly offset from a peritrochoid inner envelope configuration defined by the eccentricity. The engine may have an expansion ratio with a value of at most 8. The rotary engine may be part of a compound engine system.

The method includes: injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the combustion engine via the common-rail injector thereby generating a backflow of fuel; and powering an actuator using at least a portion of the backflow of fuel. An engine assembly including the combustion engine is disclosed; the engine assembly having a fuel circuit fluidly connecting a fuel source, the common-rail injector, and the second injector outlet together. The fuel circuit has an actuator sub-circuit operatively connected to an outlet of the common-rail injector and an actuator fluidly connected to the actuator sub-circuit.
