Thus, the compromised device would remain on the valve indicating that access to the valve or fluid had been attempted or achieved.

The threads of a second riser segment and a set of corresponding threads of the coupling nut are breech threads, which allow the second riser segment to stab into the coupling nut and engage the first riser segment. The coupling nut rotates a portion of a turn in order for the breech threads of the second riser segment and the first riser segment to engage each other. Castellations on the first and second riser segments engage each other to transmit torsional forces from one riser segment to the other instead of through the threads.

A valve is operably connected to the diaphragm member for selectively opening or closing the through hole to thereby permit or restrict the flow of a fluid between the two conduits. The opening in the body receives the diaphragm member when leak-testing a conduit, or the sealing door when connecting the two conduits in a fluid communication.

A method of forming a double flex seal for a tubular connection includes engaging an internal thread of a pin member with an external thread of a box member and flexing a pin nose of the pin member radially inward by passing the pin nose over a protruding sealing surface of the box member during make-up. The method also includes flexing the pin nose radially outward when a reverse angle shoulder of the pin nose comes into contact with a reverse angle shoulder of the box member during make-up and completing the double flex seal by finally making up the connection such that the pin nose of the pin member seats in a recessed seal cavity disposed in the box member.

    摘要: A force absorbing restraining system for a number of pipe sections, each having an integral restraining system which is subsequently connected and works in conjunction with the integral restraining system of adjacent pipe sections. It is known that during an explosive failure either of a pipe section or a joint between pipe sections, a tremendous amount of reaction force is generated by escaping effluent flow. This force, in turn, may energize equipment such as pipes, pumps, and the like to exhibit uncontrolled motion often at a rate of several hundred feet per second. The restraining system of the present invention is designed to absorb a sudden burst of explosive energy and to lessen the reaction forces generated by the explosion so as to ensure that equipment does not move about a service site in an uncontrolled manner which could injure people and damage buildings or other equipment. In short, the force absorbing restraining system in accordance with the present invention reduces the effects of impact loading during explosive failure by dissipating energy in the permanent mechanical deformation of an integral restraining tube assembly attached to each pipe section.

A male member is sized to be received in said receiving end and includes a rib having a ramp where the ramp in a first embodiment curves outwardly to an apex and in a first alternate embodiment curves outwardly to a flat and in a second alternate embodiment increases in height in a linear fashion until a relatively short distance from the flat where it curves outwardly to meet the flat, the rib also has a shoulder tapering away from the forward end and inwardly toward the axis. Upon insertion of the male member into the female member, the split metal ring is expanded as it rides over the ramp, engages the cylindrical surface and retracts to a smaller diameter approaching its original size to engage the shoulder thereby locking the male member into engagement with the female member. A release sleeve is mounted on the male member and is axially movable relative thereto to push the split locking ring up and off of the tapering shoulder to thereby disengage the male member from the female member.

Typical embodiments of the Apparatuses and methods disclosed herein operate with two separate components, the first having a moveable septum and the second having a fixed septum. When the components are engaged, the device allows the flow of fluid through a conduit to which they are coupled. When the components are uncoupled, the device prevents the flow of fluid through the conduit. An exemplary embodiment of the invention includes a housing, a moveable septum slideably coupled with the housing to be alternately disposed in at least a first and second position and a piercing member having a passage for conducting fluid. The moveable septum closes the passage in the first position and is penetrated by the piercing member to open the passage in the second position.
