Disclosed are compositions, methods and uses for thin multi-layered films that may include a metallizable skin layer that include polyethylene polymer(s), wherein the metallizable skin layer may be treated one or more times. The multi-layered films include a core layer and a sealant layer, wherein each of these layers includes metallocene-catalyzed, linear, low-density polyethylene. The core layer is located between the metallizable skin layer and the sealant layer. These films may include one or more additives in any of the layers and/or include one or more tie layers. The multi-layered films may be biaxially oriented, have a haze equal to or below 5%, and have an elastic modulus equal to or below 350 N/mm2. The multi-layered films may also include a metallized layer on the metallizable skin layer, a coated layer on the metallizable skin layer, and/or be laminated to a polyethylene-based polymer, such as polyethylene terephthalate.

A micro-voided film comprising high density polyethylene having a molecular weight of at least about 200,000, and low aspect ratio filler having a mean particle size from about 1 to about 25 microns. The film has a thickness of from about 10 to about 75 microns and a void fraction of from about 0.60 to about 0.75. The micro-voided film is made by a process comprising extruding the composition into a film having a thickness of from about 50 to about 300 microns, and orienting the extruded film using a high stalk, blown film process. The process produces a stabilized high stalk for increasing the production rate of blown, high molecular weight polyethylene, while increasing the film's physical and mechanical properties. The high stalk can be stabilized by application of high velocity, low volume flow rate of air over the interior and exterior surfaces of the extruded film.

The present invention is a production method for an expansion balloon (2) for use in a balloon catheter (1), including the steps of; forming a balloon tube (8) by extrusion molding so as to have a cross section orthogonal to an axial direction with the shape of a circle on the outside and the shape of a polygon having a circumcircle on the inside; and placing the balloon tube (8) in a mold to perform biaxially-stretched blow molding to obtain the balloon, whereby it is possible to produce the expansion balloon (2) that has no unevenness in film thickness of a straight pipe part (4) and allows stable folding control by simple processes with favorable molding yields.

A composite barrier film has a base layer of polyester or polyolefin with a barrier layer modified polyvinyl amine (mPVA). The mPVA is polyvinyl alcohol/polyvinyl amine copolymer crosslinked with citric acid and an optional additional crosslinking agent such as epichlorohydrin. The barrier layer can be applied by deposition of a reactive aqueous solution onto the base layer, heating and drying to remove water and crosslink the reactants. Excellent barrier properties of the film are obtained by applying and crosslinking the barrier layer during the transverse stretching steps of a biaxial oriented polymer film continuous fabrication process. Superior barrier properties are achieved with transverse stretching by a factor of about 3-4 for polyester and 4-10 for polyolefin.

In the method, a resin composition is obtained by mixing an emulsion of PTFE (A) with a number average molecular weight of 5×106 or more and an emulsion of PTFE (B) with a number average molecular weight of 1×106 to 4×106 so that the solid content ratio (A/B) of the PTFE (A) and the PTFE (B) is 99/1 to 10/90. The mixed emulsion is subjected to compression molding in a melted state under a reduced-pressure atmosphere to obtain a film.
