摘要： Projectile launchers have an elongated cylindrical body defining a projectile bore having a bore axis, the body having an open forward exit end, the body having a gas inlet facility at an opposed rear end, a movable latch element connected to the body and having a latch portion movable between a retention position in which the latch portion protrudes into the bore and a release position, and the latch element being biased to the retention position such that a projectile in the bore rearward of the latch is retained by the latch portion except until a gas pressure above a selected amount builds up behind the projectile to overcome the biasing of the latch and launch the projectile. The latch element may be clear of the bore when in the release position.

摘要： An apparatus and method for inflicting brain injury on a laboratory animal that employs a platform for supporting the laboratory animal. The platform defines an opening for positioning the head of the laboratory animal over the opening. A projectile is launched from a projectile launching device orientated below the opening of the platform. The projectile launching device has a means for propelling the projectile directly at and/or through the opening of said platform, thereby inflicting brain injury on the animal via either a pressure wave or concussive impact of the projectile. Without helmet, direct impact of the projectile results in severe traumatic brain injury. Use of helmet protects animals from skull fracture, subdural hematoma, intracerebral hemorrhage and contusion yet produces mild concussion-like pathology.

摘要： An impact-safe projectile launcher for use within an inflatable structure is presented. The projectile launcher comprises a launch tube having an inner end and an outer end. A mount connects the launch tube to the inflatable structure, e.g. a bounce house. An air inlet is provided at the inner end of the launch tube. A projectile inlet is provided downstream of the air inlet at the inner end of the launch tube. An air blower is connected to the inflatable structure and operatively connected such that air flows continuously from the air blower through the air inlet down the launch tube. The continuous flow of air propels impact-safe projectiles that are inserted into the projectile opening down the launch tube and out of the projectile launcher through the outer end of the launch tube.
