    摘要: A conductive coating on a thin glass strip senses the image signal on a selenium coated photoimaging plate as the plate is scanned with a laser beam. The glass strip is suspended over the surface of the plate with finger-like members. The finger-like members that support the strip are spring loaded downward toward the plate, but are suspended above the plate by a pressurized cushion of air. The strip bends to assume the surface profile of the plate, thus maintaining uniform spacing even though the plate may not be flat and may even have a varying profile along its length.

    摘要: The invention is an improved modulator, in the form of a screen, having the capability of selectively passing therethrough charged particles, such as gas ions, in accordance with a pattern that corresponds to the image and non-image areas of a graphic original. The apertured modulator is formed from a metal screen, such as a 200 mesh wire screen, having a wire cross section of 0.051 millimeter and is overcoated with a four-micron thickness of a photoconductor, such as selenium or an organic photoconductor, over which is next applied an equal thickness of an insulating layer, such as polystyrene. The three-layered modulator constructed in this manner is imparted a charge pattern corresponding to the graphic subject to be reproduced by the creation of a charge distribution system (CDS) on the insulating surface. The CDS created on the modulator in the environment of this invention is completely passive to electromagnetic radiation. The modulator is placed between an emission electrode and collection electrode to selectively pass therethrough gas ions to be received onto a dielectric surface in a charge pattern corresponding to the graphic subject from which the charge distribution system was created on the insulating layer.The technique and procedure whereby such a developable charge image is created on a dielectric material, such as a sheet of paper, involves disposing the modulator, bearing its charge distribution system, in the environment of an arrangement of electrodes which includes a corona emission electrode juxtaposed with the metal side of the modulator for creating gas ions in air which are directed into the apertures of the modulator and a collection electrode disposed on the side opposite facing and immediately juxtaposed with the insulating surface for directing the ions toward a sheet of dielectric paper in contact with the collecting electrode.

    摘要: An electrophotographic process of this invention is achieved by subjecting a photosensitive screen to a matched performance of voltage applications and image irradiation to form a primary electrostatic latent image for modulating the flow of corona ions to enable a secondary electrostatic latent image on a recording member disposed in close proximity to the screen bearing the primary electrostatic latent image. The screen is made of a conductive member as the basic element for the screen, a photoconductive member covering the substantial part of the conductive member, and a surface insulating member also covering the substantial part of the conductive member and the photoconductive member, in which the conductive member is partly exposed at one surface side of the screen, or it is entirely covered by the surface insulating member with another conductive member to be exposed being provided on said insulating member, and the coating thicknesses of the photoconductive and surface insulating members are thicker at the portion opposite to the surface part of the conductive member to be exposed.

    摘要: The invention concerns a screen photosensitive member, and an electrophotographic method using such screen photosensitive member, and relates to improvement in the screen constructed with an electrically conductive member, a photoconductive layer provided on the electrically conductive member, and a surface insulative layer constituting the screen surface at the side opposite to at least a modulating corona source. More particularly, the screen according to the present invention is further provided, at the side of the modulating corona source, with a potential holding layer which holds thereon corona ions applied to it and maintains the surface of the screen at the side of the modulating corona source at a predetermined potential.By the use of the screen of the present invention, it becomes possible to improve the potential of a latent image formed on the screen and, moreover, to effect ion modulation repeatedly from one and the same latent image formed on the screen owing to the capability of the potential holding layer to maintain the potential on one surface side of the screen at a predetermined level and to absorb due to the characteristic of this potential holding layer, excessive charge for the modulation as applied to the screen.

    摘要: An electrostatic image forming method for various kinds of image forming apparatuses. At an exposing step, a light image having a light quantity region greater than a predetermined quantity of light is projected to form on a dielectric layer of a dielectric recording medium a positive electrostatic image which has such a tendency that the surface potential or the amount of surface charge is comparatively small in a region in which the quantity of light is comparatively large. A full-surface exposing step using a predetermined quantity of exposing light is added to before or after the exposure to the light image, so that the total quantity of exposing light exceeds a predetermined quantity of light. The quantity of light of the light image is controllable to a larger one which provides a positive electrostatic image on the dielectric layer, or to a smaller one which provides a negative latent image. After an image has been formed, a predetermined period of time for adaptation is provided to ensure a potential contrast so that a positive electrostatic latent image may be formed under advantageous image forming conditions.
