Abstract:
An electrophotographic process of this invention is achieved by subjecting a photosensitive screen to a matched performance of voltage applications and image irradiation to form a primary electrostatic latent image for modulating the flow of corona ions to enable a secondary electrostatic latent image on a recording member disposed in close proximity to the screen bearing the primary electrostatic latent image. The screen is made of a conductive member as the basic element for the screen, a photoconductive member covering the substantial part of the conductive member, and a surface insulating member also covering the substantial part of the conductive member and the photoconductive member, in which the conductive member is partly exposed at one surface side of the screen, or it is entirely covered by the surface insulating member with another conductive member to be exposed being provided on said insulating member, and the coating thicknesses of the photoconductive and surface insulating members are thicker at the portion opposite to the surface part of the conductive member to be exposed.

Abstract:
After uniformly charging one insulator side of an insulator mesh the other side of which is subjected to electroconductive treatment, the ion flow controlled by recording signals is irradiated for a short period of time on the insulator mesh to obtain a charge distribution wherein the charge on the insulator side is neutralized corresponding to the dots to be recorded. Via mesh apertures which have been freed from the charge by neutralization, the ion flow is irradiated for a time far longer than the above-said short time on an insulating recording substrate, to obtain thereon an electrostatic latent image having an amplified charge distribution.
Abstract:
The invention basically comprises systems and methods relating to the field of electrostatics and is concerned with multicolor electrostatic reproduction, printing or constituting on coated and uncoated print receiving media with multilayer apertured elements or screens carrying charge distributions in accordance with selected color separation patterns. Ions accelerated through the apertures of the multilayer element pass therethrough under modulation control dictated by the color separation pattern, thereby forming a modulated ion stream having a cross-sectional density pattern corresponding to the color separation pattern. Electrostatic latent images are formed with modulated ion streams and are developed in various ways.
Abstract:
A process for forming electrostatic latent images to be developed by a color toner. The process comprises the steps of forming a first electrostatic image by charging a photoconductive layer formed on a first ion beam controlling screen, exposing the charged photoconductive layer imagewise to light based on a first image information, disposing a recording material having an insulating surface so that it confronts the exposed photoconductive layer and radiating ions on the insulating surface of the recording material through said first screen; and forming a corrected electrostatic latent image by charging a photoconductive layer formed on a second ion beam controlling screen, exposing the charged photoconductive layer of the second screen to light based on a second image information, disposing the recording material having the first electrostatic image formed thereon so that it confronts the exposed photoconductive layer of the second screen and radiating ions on the insulating surface of the recording material through said second screen. Each of the first and second ion beam controlling screen comprises a base composed of a metal lattice having numerous penetrating holes, a photoconductive layer formed on one surface of the base, an insulating layer formed on the other surface of the base, and a biasing conductive layer formed on the insulating layer.

An electrographic apparatus for producing, on a dielectric record sheet, an electrostatic charge image corresponding to a manuscript image to be recorded is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a shutter arranged in a light path for projecting the manuscript image onto a photosensitive screen and adapted to be opened only when an electrostatic latent image corresponding to the manuscript image is produced on the photosensitive screen.
Abstract:
This specification discloses an invention relating to the relationship between a latent image bearing member such as screen-like photosensitive medium and a corona discharger used to form a latent image on the latent image bearing member. More particularly, the corona discharger is divided into a plurality of dischargers so that when the sum of the length of the corona discharger for the formation of the latent image and the length of the latent image bearing member is greater than the length in the direction of movement of an endless support member supporting the latent image bearing member, the plurality of dischargers may selectively discharge corona in accordance with the rotational position of the latent image bearing member. By this, the latent image bearing member may be prevented from being dually charged and the length of the latent image bearing member may be minimized to contribute to reduction in size of the image formation apparatus.

Photocontrolled ion-flow electron radiography apparatus has a multi-layered mesh structure, comprised of a conductive apertured sheet supporting an insulating layer, overlayed with a conductive screen and a top-most layer of photoconductive material, to control an ion stream responsive to a charge image formed in the photoconductive layer responsive to a pattern of x-rays differentially-absorbed by an object to be analyzed.
Abstract:
A belt of flexible metal with a dielectric of good electrostatic charge retention properties bonded to it is guided over grounded metal rollers with the metallicized side in contact with the rollers. At an imaging station an electrostatic image is placed directly on the dielectric. As the belt moves past a toning station it is sprayed with an insulating fluid containing small particles of high dielectric constant, which thereby obtain an induced dipole moment, or particles with a permanent dipole moment may be used. These particles are suspended in an organic carrier which is chosen so as not to discharge the dielectric belt and to impart a negligible electrostatic charge to the particles. Then the developed image is moved past a station wherein a dielectric roller is used as a backup, and a sheet of plain paper is pressed between the belt and the roller to transfer the wet particles from the belt to the paper.Because the image charge is never neutralized or electrostatically degraded, the belt can be developed and used to print new images many times without having to replace the image charge.
