In one embodiment, the invention adjusts a base driver demanded torque based on barometric pressure to preserve full pedal travel and prevent “dead pedal” feel when operating the vehicle at high altitudes and maximum engine torque output. As such, the accelerator pedal position is interpreted as a request for a portion or percentage of the currently available engine torque or power which varies as a function of the barometric pressure.

The present invention provides a RISC processor with a debug interface unit that enables the external replication of the data processing sequence within a RISC processor for debug purposes. The data exchanged between the sequence controller and the instruction decoder are intermediately stored and forwarded via a free bus line to an interface unit. In the interface unit, the data pending at its inputs are forwarded to defined outputs of the interface. This allows the register contents to be co-read in real time. Accordingly, all the required information to perform an efficient error search are displayed for an outside operator who may then monitor the data processing sequence and conduct an error search.

A multi-core DSP device includes a shared program memory to eliminate redundancy and thereby reduce the size and power consumption of the DSP device. Because each of the program cores typically executes the same software program, memory requirements may be reduced by having multiple processor cores share only a single copy of the software. Accordingly, a program memory couples to each of the processor cores by a corresponding instruction bus. Preferably the program memory services two or more instruction requests in each clock cycle. Data is preferably stored in separate memory arrays local to the processor core subsystems and accessible by the processor cores via a dedicated data bus. In one specific implementation, the program memory includes a wrapper that can perform one memory access in the first half of each clock cycle and a second memory access in the second half of each clock cycle. A designated set of instruction buses is allowed to arbitrate for only the first access, and the remaining instruction buses are allowed to arbitrate for only the second access. In this manner, a reduction in on-board memory requirements and associated power consumption may be advantageously reduced.

When the throttle position is at wide-open throttle, the method generates a barometric pressure value ({circumflex over (P)}anew) as a function of the manifold absolute pressure value (P) and previously estimated barometric pressure. Otherwise, the method generates a barometric pressure value as a function of the manifold absolute pressure value (P), and an estimated intake manifold pressure ({circumflex over (P)}) and estimated mass airflow (). In a further embodiment, a mass airflow sensor is also used to generate the estimated barometric pressure value when the engine is not operating at wide-open throttle.
