    摘要: A loudspeaker system containing wave-shaping sound chambers with approximately rectangular inlets and outlets of substantially the same size that are used to flatten or control the curvature of the acoustic wavefronts contained within system waveguides. Control of the degree of curvature of the wavefront enables the development of a wide variety of multi-waveguide arrays. The sound chambers are placed between a waveguides and a flattened conical horns of secondary waveguides. The sound chambers transform the curvature of the typical fan shaped wavefront that results from a conical horn throat into a wavefront that approximates a planar or curved rectangular ribbon of sound.

    摘要: A sound attenuating system is provided which allows a relatively unobstructed airflow conduit to be associated with chambers that reflect various frequencies of sound back towards the source of the sound. The chambers are arranged in a coaxial association with the primary airflow conduit and are sized to reflect a certain range of frequencies of sound. Holes extend through the airflow conduit, in a radial direction, to place the airflow conduit in fluid communication with the chambers which surround portions of the conduit.

    摘要: A suction muffler in a reciprocating compressor is installed over a suction valve to attenuate complex sound pressure (noise) such as vibrational noise, valve sonance, flowing noise and pulsative noise produced from the suction valve when low temperature, low pressure refrigerant gas ejected from an evaporator is sucked into a cylinder via the suction valve and a suction portion of the cylinder. A Tesla valve having two distribution paths is mounted in the suction muffler to attenuate the complex sound pressure (noise) while preventing the reflow of the refrigerant gas into the suction muffler from the suction valve. As a result, the Tesla valve also enhances the cooling ability of the compressor and the attenuation effect.

The composition is formed from at least one core layer and at least two septa, with the core layer being a material having a generally low-acoustic-impedance, a static shear modulus between about 1.0 psi (0.007 MPa) and about 15,000 psi (103 MPa), a transverse (or through-thickness) sound velocity for the acoustic waveform of between about 700 and about 2200 meters per second, a transverse acoustic impedance of less than or equal to 4×106 kilograms per square meter-second, and a shear loss factor of greater than 0.02, the septa being composed of at least one ply of a material, preferably a graphite fiber reinforced epoxy composition, having a transverse acoustic impedance of less than 60×106 kg/m2-sec, a tensile modulus of more than 0.5×106 psi, a thickness of less than 0.10 &lgr;, and each and being bonded to said core to form a sandwich with said core layer, and the window preferably has a thickness of less than 1.0 &lgr;w and the acoustic waveform has a &lgr; of at least 0.001 meter and less than 3 meters.

    摘要: An acoustic resistor or damper and method of manufacturing the same is disclosed. The damper has mesh material and mounting material attached to the mesh material. The mounting material defines an open region for transmission of sound through the mesh material, and has a mounting surface for mounting the damper on a surface surrounding an acoustic port or tube. The mounting surface is located on a plane different from the mesh material, thereby shielding the mesh material from adhesive applied between the mounting surface and the surface surrounding the acoustic port or tube. The method of manufacturing an acoustic damper comprises exposing emulsion applied to a mesh material through at least one opening in a photographic mask to ultraviolet light and removing the emulsion exposed. A portion of the remaining emulsion and mesh material is cut in a shape surrounding the removed emulsion.
