A slider supports a transducers proximate the disc surface and includes a bearing surface generally facing the disc surface for operation of the transducer above the disc surface. The bearing includes raised bearing surfaces, and shock-absorbing pads which are spaced from a base surface and extend to an elevation aligned with or below the bearing surfaces. Shock pads are located to provide a contact interface between the slider and disc surface.

The upstream or leading end of a bottom surface on the slider body is defined along a first datum line extending in the lateral direction of the slider body. The first datum line may be set perpendicular to the longitudinal centerline of the slider body. The upstream or leading end of the front air bearing surface is defined along a second datum line intersecting the first datum line at a predetermined inclined angle. As the incidence angle of an airflow colliding against a step defined at the leading end of the front air bearing surface gets decreased, the pitch angle of the slider body also gets decreased in the flying head slider during flight.

    摘要: A slider which utilizes a set of four pads arranged in a generally rectangular form. The two pads on the leading edge of the slider each include an angled face on their leading edge to facilitate the lift-off of the slider. Behind each leading edge pad is a trailing pad of substantially the same width and separated from the leading pad by a cross-cut channel. The pressure relief provided by the open cross-slot that separates the front and rear pads of each rail of the slider significantly reduces the sensitivity of air bearing pressure to the shape of the disc surface, leading to a very small fly height modulation even when moving over a disc with substantial runout. The rails are separated by a cross-cut. This cross-cut design substantially diminishes the effect of pressure variations which occur owing to the peaks and valleys which exist on discs, especially plastic discs as the slider flies over the surface of the disc.

    摘要: A method of design of a magnetic recording slider and sensor geometry is disclosed which allows a magneto-resistive recording element to achieve a significantly reduced physical and magnetic spacing with a rigid magnetic recording disk in a disk drive, without resulting in thermal transients caused by sensor/disk contacts. The method utilizes pseudo-contact slider technology with an intentionally recessed MR sensor pole tip and alumina region. The reduced spacing achieved by pseudo-contact recording is significant compared to the spacing loss incurred by the proposed precision of the MR recoding element, resulting in a net reduction in head medium magnetic spacing.

The slider includes a plurality of landing pads which serve to minimize the contact area between the slider and the discs when the heads are parked in contact with the discs, and the landing pads project from surfaces which are farther removed from the disc surface than the air bearing surfaces, thus minimizing the size and strength of any liquid miniscus formed between the slider and the disc when the slider and disc are in contact. By recessing the bases of the landing pads from the air bearing surfaces, the effect of the landing pads on the separation between the data transducer and the discs is minimized.
