摘要： An MR head includes a slider, and a film structure part which is located on an air outflow side of the slider and includes an MR element for reproducing. The film structure part has an end surface located on an identical side as a floating surface of the slider. The end surface of the film structure part and the floating surface of the slider form a step-like recess which has a depth making it possible to prevent a fine projection on a magnetic disk from hitting the end surface of the film structure part.

摘要： In a magnetic recording medium wherein a magnetic recording layer for storing information, a carbon type protective layer for preventing damage of the magnetic recording layer and a lubrication layer are sequentially formed on a non-magnetic substrate, the carbon protective layer has a relatively smaller hydrogen content on the side nearer the lubrication layer than on the side nearer the magnetic recording layer. In a magnetic head slider having an electromagnetic conversion device mounted thereto, a carbon protective layer is laminated on at least a sliding surface side, and a lubrication layer is disposed on the carbon type protective layer. In a recording apparatus including a recording medium for storing information and a magnetic head for recording or reproducing information to and from the memory medium, a carbon protective film having a lower hydrogen content at an upper, surface portion thereof than at a lower, initial portion thereof is formed on either the recording medium or a sliding portion of the magnetic head.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium, comprising Cr base layer containing up to about 25 atom % of nitrogen, preferably 5 to 15 atom %, and a magnetic film of Co alloy such as Co-Ni or Co-Ni-Cr alloy material deposited thereon, shows a clear improvement over that using a pure Cr base layer without nitrogen content in medium noise level and S/N ratio. In case of about 10 atom % nitrogen content in the base layer, the medium noise level is reduced by half and the S/N ratio is improved by 6 to 9 dB, while the other magnetic characteristics such as coercivity Hc, residual magnetization Br, and squareness ratio Sq are remaining the same.

摘要： A magnetic disk device reproduces information from a magnetic disk by using a magneto-resistive head. The magnetic disk device includes a temperature detecting unit which detects an ambient temperature. A sense current control unit controls a sense current based on the ambient temperature detected by the temperature detecting unit, the sense current being supplied to the magneto-resistive head to detect a change of a resistance of the magneto-resistive head for the magnetic disk in a magnetic field.

摘要： A perpendicular magnetic recording medium for use on a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus which has a magnetic head for recording/reproduction includes a substrate, a magnetic recording layer having a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and a soft magnetic under layer interposed between the substrate and the magnetic recording layer. The soft magnetic under layer includes a mechanism for for suppressing motion of the domain walls of the soft magnetic under layer at least with respect to an external magnetic field which is smaller than a stray magnetic field in a vicinity of the magnetic head within the magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus.
