摘要: A variable diameter fuel rod of a nuclear reactor assembly is disclosed. The variable diameter fuel rod includes an elongated cladding tube configured to house a plurality of fuel pellets including a fissile material arranged in a fuel stack orientation. The elongated cladding tube includes first and second axial reflector regions and a middle axial region therebetween. The middle axial region comprises an outer diameter defined as d1. The first and second axial reflector regions include an outer cladding diameter defined as d2 and d3, respectively. The variable diameter fuel rod further includes a transitional region between the diameter d1 of the middle axial region and the diameter d2 of the axial reflector region. The diameter d2 of the axial reflector region is greater than the diameter d1 of the middle axial region.

A method of control operation of a nuclear reactor includes receiving instructions to adjust operation of the nuclear reactor, moving a control rod relative to a core of the nuclear reactor via rotating one or more drive rods engaged with a drive platform, and releasing a control platform coupled to the control rod from the drive platform.

摘要: Provided is a nuclear reactor having a load following control system in which a nuclear reaction therein is naturally controlled by the generated heat, the nuclear reactor being provided with: a reactor core provided with a plurality of fuel assemblies of metallic fuels containing uranium (U) 235, 238 and/or plutonium (Pu) 239; a primary coolant comprising a liquid metal; a neutron reflector which serves to control the nuclear reaction in the reactor core and is disposed to enclose the periphery of the reactor core; and a mechanism which contains a-liquid or a gas having a thermal expansion coefficient greater than that of the neutron reflector, and converts the coefficient of volumetric expansion into an amount of linear thermal expansion, and, by using same, moves the neutron reflector or adjusts the spacing between the plurality of fuel assemblies.

摘要: A dynamic neutron reflector assembly for a “breed-and-burn” fast reactor incrementally adjusts neutron spectrum and reactivity in a reactor core. The composition of materials in the dynamic neutron reflector may be adjusted to change neutron reflectivity levels, or to introduce neutron moderating or absorption characteristics. The dynamic neutron reflector may contain a flowing reflecting liquid of adjustable volume and/or density. Submergible members may be selectively inserted into the flowing reflecting liquid to alter its volume and introduce other neutron modifying effects such as moderation or absorption. Selective insertion of the submergible members allows for concentration of the neutron modifying effects in a selected portion of the reactor core. The flowing reflecting liquid may also act as a secondary coolant circuit by exchanging heat with the molten fuel salt.

摘要: A compact nuclear power generation system includes a reactor (3) comprising a core (2) which uses metal fuel containing either or both of uranium-235/238 and plutonium-239. A reactor vessel (1) houses the core (2). Metal sodium primary coolant (8) is heated by the core (2). A neutron reflector (9) maintains the effective multiplication factor of neutrons emitted from the core (2) at approximately one or more to bring the core into a critical state. The neutron reflector is movable from a lower part towards an upper part of the core. The heated metal sodium is supplied to a main heat exchanger (15) which is located outside the reactor. A secondary coolant of supercritical carbon dioxide, which circulates through the main heat exchanger, is in heat exchange with the heated metal sodium. The heated secondary coolant drives a turbine (20). A power generator (21) can be operated by the driven turbine.

摘要: Radiation shielding and methods of manufacture are disclosed. A radiation shielding apparatus includes a matrix including matrix material; and a mixture positioned in the matrix, the mixture including: a neutron thermalizing material; and a neutron absorbing material mixed with the neutron thermalizing material. A reactivity control system includes a container rotatable around an axis; a divider positioned inside the container to define two or more compartments within the container; at least one neutron absorber positioned in at least one of the two or more compartments; and at least one neutron reflector positioned in another of the two or more compartments that is fluidly isolated from the at least one of the two or more compartments. A method of manufacturing radiation shielding material includes: fabricating a matrix; generating a mixture by mixing a neutron absorbing material, a neutron thermalizing material, and additive materials; and loading the mixture into the matrix.
