    摘要: An overcurrent protection circuit for low-voltage, high-current electrical systems comprises a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) resistor in series with an auto-reset thermal breaker. The breaker allows for intermittent current within an assumed product usage duty cycle, and repeatedly trips and resets on sustained high current usage or during a short-circuit fault. The PTC resistor limits current in the system to a low value when the temperature rises to the PTC resistor's trip point. The PTC resistor protects the system from thermal damage during the non-breaker-tripped portions of sustained high current use, or during continuous low-current use. The use of both the PTC resistor and auto-reset breaker provides thermal overcurrent protection while allowing for performance claims based on an assumed duty cycle of product use.

    摘要: A circuit interrupter has a first contact, a second contact, and a trip arm which moves the second contact between a closed position where the second contact is touching the first contact and an open position in which the second contact is spaced apart from the first contact. A first trip mechanism has a first solenoid, a first overcurrent sensor, and a first arm. A second trip mechanism has a second solenoid, a second overcurrent sensor, and a second arm. The first trip mechanism activates the first arm after a first threshold amount of time which actuates the trip arm when the first overcurrent sensor detects a first threshold level. The second trip mechanism activates the second arm after a second threshold amount of time which actuates the trip arm when the second overcurrent sensor detects a second threshold level, the second threshold level being different than the first.

    摘要: A circuit breaker test system includes a circuit breaker under test having a deformable frame with an elongated slot, an elongated deformable portion adjacent the elongated slot and a movable portion adjacent the deformable portion, and a thermal trip assembly coupled to the movable portion. A calibration device includes a forked tool straddling the deformable portion. The trip assembly has a first thermal response. The calibration device rotates the tool in a first rotational direction and responsively deforms the deformable portion and moves the movable portion in a first direction, in order to calibrate the trip assembly for a second different thermal response. The calibration device rotates the tool in an opposite second rotational direction and responsively deforms the deformable portion and moves the movable portion in an opposite second direction, in order to re-calibrate the trip assembly for a third thermal response between the first and second thermal responses.

    摘要: A bypass circuit conducts electrical current around a motor starter to a current limiting switch assembly upon initiation of a flow of excessive electrical current to an electric motor to protect the motor starter against excessive current flow. Upon initiation of excessive current flow to the electric motor, the current limiting switch assembly opens a main circuit to interrupt current flow through the motor starter. The current limiting switch assembly includes a conductor or contact carrier which is movable from an initial position to an actuated position under the combined influence of current flow through a coil and opposition between magnetic fields from portions of an electrical circuit through which current flows in opposite directions.

    摘要: A reclosing circuit breaker having a fault overcurrent time delay means and an operation counting means. The opening time delay means selectively permits one or more fast opening operations and then, in response to a pumping force by a spring charged during a previous opening operation, blocks an oil exhaust port so that subsequent opening operations are time delayed. The operation counting means is advanced a predetermined step distance for each opening operation of the circuit breaker and is held in each advanced step until just before reclosing of the circuit breaker. The step distance advanced and the point at which the counting means is released is controlled, in part, by a simple adjustment device. Depending on its initial setting, the counting means will permit a predetermined number of circuit breaker opening operations and then will actuate a means for locking open the circuit breaker.
