    摘要: A vacuum insulated structure including a tube having an outer wall, a jacket surrounding the tube to enclose an annular insulating space, the jacket having an end that terminates at the outer wall of the tube, a seal formed between the end of the jacket and the tube to preserve a vacuum within the insulating space, and a fitting affixed to one of the tube and the jacket for coupling the vacuum insulated structure to an external device. A method of making a vacuum insulated structure including forming a tube and a jacket, positioning the jacket over the tube to form an annular insulating space, with an end of the jacket being positioned adjacent to an outer wall of the tube to form a vent, causing air to escape through the vent, sealing the vent, and affixing a fitting to one of the tube and the jacket.

    摘要: A microwave guide suitable for carrying microwaves between an object that is vibrating that is connected to a first end of the guide and an object connected to the other end of the guide that is to be protected from transmitted vibrations, the guide providing a restricted path for the transmission of vibrations. In one embodiment, the guide comprises a flexible mesh part having an inner surface which has high electric conductivity and is provided with a plurality openings. The openings may be sufficiently small such that microwave radiation is unable to pass through the opening. The guide may also include a support structure which extends along the length of the guide. The support structure may have a low dielectric loss tangent and which is sufficiently rigid to provide support to the mesh part.

    摘要: A bending mechanism for flexible waveguide uses a combination of an elongate arm (1), two short bracket arms (3 & 7) and a gear train (5, 11, 13 & 9) linking the bracket arms to bend a flexible waveguide (24) over a range of positions. The bend is formed to the shape of a circular arc the radius of which varies with the position. Each short bracket arm is pivotally connected (15 & 17) to a respective end of the elongate arm and to a respective one of the waveguide's two end flanges (23 & 25). Each bracket arm contains a gear that rotates with the respective bracket arm about the bracket arm's pivot; and an even number of gears interlinks those gears whereby pivotal movement of one of the flanges in a clockwise direction produces an effective relative pivotal movement of the other flange. The bending mechanism allows for as much as 180 degrees of repetitive reciprocal rotation of one flange relative to the other without imposing significant stress on the flexible waveguide, providing an ideal long lasting interface between a mechanically scanning microwave antenna and a microwave transmitter/receiver.

    摘要: Modular-configured beam waveguide for transmitting microwave energy is formed of a plurality of cascaded modules each module containing a pair of reflecting surfaces, e.g. mirrors with the mirrors prealigned with one another and mounted in a supporting conduit or tube. Each tube or conduit module has a pair of orthogonal axes about which its joints with adjacent modules may rotate, so that with a plurality of such modules interconnected with one another, the overall configuration of serially connected modules may follow substantially any desired path. If desired, a module may be configured of a single L-shaped tube or cylinder at the bend of the L of which there is interiorly disposed an aligned mirror, either flat or curved, e.g. substantially elliptically configured for focussing purposes. The tubular construction may be conductive or nonconductive, its prime purpose being to provide support, rigidity and strength, as well as impermeability to external environmental conditions. Each open end of the tubular subsection of a module is of preferably circular cross-section with a rotationally mounted fitting for coupling to one of the legs of another L-shaped module subsection.
