    摘要: An apparatus and method of use opposes a short circuit failure mode in a printer having a printhead controller circuit driving an address bus connected to two or more printheads. A failure protection circuit associates one resistor group with each address line within the address bus that extends into at least two printheads. In particular, one address line resistor is placed in series between the address lead extending from a head driver IC within the printhead controller circuit and each printhead into which the address line extends. Where an address line shorts, the associated address line resistor protects the head driver IC from the short, allowing it to control the voltage potential of that address line in any printhead that has not failed. The user is then able to identify and replace the non-functioning printhead.

In this case, a first detection system carries out the tripping function for fault currents at a fault current frequency below a changeover frequency. The second detection system carries out the tripping function for fault currents above the changeover frequency. The changeover frequency is in this case preferably not less than 1 kHz.

    摘要: Current drawn by the fingerprint sensor subject to electrostatic discharge events not fully dissipated by a pad ring is monitored. Upon detection of an overcurrent (e.g., an increase in the current drawn by approximately an order of magnitude) indicating that a latchup condition has occurred, power is removed from the sensor, together with all inputs to the sensor, until the latchup condition is cleared. If a processor or controller is employed by the sensor, the processor or controller is concurrently reset since a firmware crash may be induced by the latchup condition. If a parallel port or other communications connection is employed by the sensor, the overcurrent signal is employed to directly disconnect power and input signals to the sensor.

    摘要: An electronic protective relay emulates an electromechanical protective relay so that operation of the two types of relays can be coordinated in providing protection in an electric power distribution system. The electronic protective relay incorporates a digital processor which increments a variable delay tally as an inverse current function and a fixed delay tally by a corresponding proportionate amount. During each running of the routine, only the smaller of the two tallies is increased so that they are forced to track one another. When both tallies reach a trip value, a trip signal is generated. The processor also applied a reset function when the measured current is below a pickup value. In accordance with the preferred reset feature, the variable delay tally is reduced using an inverse current function and the fixed delay is reduced by the same amount.

    摘要: A membrane switch structure providing electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection has three layers of insulating material, including two outer layers containing on their inside opposing surfaces printed conductive circuit patterns which may be selectively brought into electrical contact with each other through contact apertures provided in an intermediate insulting layer. An ESD protection circuit is provided in close proximity to at least one of the two outer layers, e.g., by printing the pattern on a backside of one of the outer layers in the same manner that printing of the circuit pattern is carried out. The ESD protection circuit pattern replicates, at least generally, all or a portion of the layout of the conductive circuit patterns. The ESD protection circuit can be efficiently fabricated and offers effective protection of the membrane switches from ESD events that can cause device operation problems in, for example, computer keyboards.
