A set of outer disks is interleaved with the inner disks to form a disk stack. Each outer disk has an outer diameter root, an inner diameter free end, and a plurality of alternating high permeability teeth and low permeability material segments. The inner and outer disks are configured to bear against and support each other in response to axial magnetic forces. Flux return portions are disposed axially adjacent the disks at each end of the disk stack. A coil is associated with the roots of one of the sets of disks and configured to provide axial flux through the disk stack to rotate one set of disks with respect to the other set of disks.

The motor comprises a yoke of soft magnetic material, a plurality of field poles each having a field core of semi-hard magnetic material and a pole piece of soft magnetic material, a plurality of coils wound around the field cores respectively, and a rotor including a permanent magnet. In this constitution, utilizing action of the minor loop of the field cores of semi-hard magnetic material, the residual magnetic flux density of the plurality of field cores is controlled in sequence and the shifting magnetic field is induced thereby the magnetic poles of the rotor are attracted in sequence so as to move the rotor.

Each auxiliary pole comprises a projection extending in the circumferential direction in the area of the edge of the rotor and the permanent magnetic circuit comprises at least one permanent magnet, the latter being arranged beyond the circumference of the rotor and extending with its pole axis approximately tangential to the rotor such that a part of the magnetic lines of force close across the circumferential edge zone of a main pole and auxiliary pole of the rotor.

The described technology relates to a stator of a planar type motor and a planar type motor using the same, which are easy to manufacture and are capable of reducing core losses, thereby maximizing motor performance. First cores that are difficult to form by stacking electrical steel plates are formed of soft magnetic powders, and second cores that are formed by stacking electrical steel plates having the same size are arranged in a region where a vortex is concentrated, thereby allowing easy manufacture and being capable of maximizing the performance of the planar type motor.

A stator assembly for an electric motor includes a drive plate, a first magnetic core and a second magnetic core. A first core slot is formed in the first magnetic core and a second slot is formed in the second magnetic core. The first and second magnetic cores each include two elongated members joined at one end by a base member which are defined by the respective core slots. The two elongated members extend from the base member substantially parallel to each other toward the drive plate. A stator coil is wound through the first core slot and the second core slot. An electrical current flowing in the stator coil generates a magnetic field about the stator coil that is absorbed by the first magnetic core and the second magnetic core to generate a magnetic flux in each of the magnetic cores that magnetically attracts the drive plate.
