A circuit for providing a regulated square wave output voltage and a regulated DC output voltage or both. An AC source energizes a switching circuit, having a variable switching rate, which connects a capacitor in voltage clamping relationship to an AC load for both half cycles of the AC voltage thereacross. This switching rate is controlled in accordance with the time accumulation of an electrical quantity, in the present instance the voltage across the AC load. The DC voltage across the capacitor attains a predetermined equilibrium value when the frequency of the AC output voltage is equal to the frequency of the AC source. If the DC capacitor voltage and the AC output voltage derived therefrom deviate from their equilibrium values, as, for example, because of a change in the level of load current, there occur transient changes in the switching rate of the switching circuit which result in changes in the phase displacement between the AC input voltage and the AC output voltage. This phase displacement controls the voltage across an inductor which, in turn, controls the flow of a current which restores the DC capacitor voltage and the amplitude and frequency of the AC output voltage to the desired values while supplying the required power to the AC and DC loads.

A current stabilizer having a saturable reactor in the mode of forced magnetization is adapted to control and stabilize both direct and alternating currents in the load, the wave form of the alternating current in the load being rectangular. The current stabilizer comprises working windings of the saturable reactor being separated into voltage working windings and current working windings which are switched over by power-controlled rectifiers when passing from the excitation mode into the conductivity mode, thus reducing the overall dimensions and weights of the current stabilizer.

A control circuit for an SCR that is capable of responding to a plurality of electrically isolated input signals has a summing circuit connected to its input terminals to sum functions of the input signals. The summed signals are phase synchronized with formed SCR in a Phase Shift Circuit. The synchronized signal is formed into pulse trains functional of the summed input signals. The pulse trains are shaped in a pulse firing signal, which is connected to the SCR gate. The summing circuit chops the DC input signals with a reference carrier and sums the resulting envelopes in the secondaries of output coupling transformers.

In an uninterruptible power supply comprising a normal source of alternating voltage, a rectifier/battery charger, a battery, and a static inverter, the inverter is kept in synchronism with the normal source by controlling its frequency in accordance with an error signal which is representative in magnitude and polarity of any deviation in phase between the output voltage of the inverter and the voltage of the normal source.
