摘要:
An inflatable kite system with an internal support structure which allows the kite to be formed into any shape desired. Shapes can include sports team logos, cartoon characters, or any other desired shape. Custom text can be printed as well for advertisement purposes. Preferably, the body is formed from Mylar, also known as BoPET (Biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate), or similar materials to allow for good inflation and structural stability. The kite would be formed of two shaped pieces sealed along their edges and then sealed in multiple patterns along the faces of the two shaped pieces to form internal structural tubes. When these internal structural tubes are inflated, they act as support structures for the kite similar to existing hard-formed kite frames which rely on plastic or wooden sticks. Additional channels for being inflated may also be formed to help the kite float.

This invention concerns a line reeling device for reeling front and back lines of a kite. The device includes a reeling mechanism comprising a first reel and a second reel which are located in an enclosure and on which the front and back lines are, in use, wound respectively. The reels are arranged so that their rotation in one direction retracts the lines and their rotation in the other direction deploys the lines. The reeling mechanism further includes reel connecting means which is operable to cause the reels to rotate in harmony in one configuration and rotate independently in another configuration. The reeling mechanism also has a braking mechanism for controlling rotation of the reels and a control mechanism which is in connection with the braking mechanism. The control mechanism is operable between a first, locked position wherein rotation of the reels is obstructed and a second, released position wherein rotation of the reels is allowed.

The invention concerns an airborne device comprising at least three supporting wings and a linking device, the wings being linked to each other by first flexible cables, each wing being further linked to the linking device by a second flexible cable, the linking device being linked to a third flexible cable intended to be linked to a base, the first second, and third cables being tensioned when the airborne device is carried in the wind.

Provided is a kite construction including a multi-component airframe decentralizing one or more points of constituent connections. The airframe includes a base, and a truss configured to span across the base and to distributed connections. In doing so, component airframe members are joined in a manner heightening structural integrity of the airframe, while at the same time allowing for an ease of disassembly of those members at the distributed connections.

Embodiments of the invention comprise woven multilayer textiles having shaped, enclosed, inflatable pockets, where the inflated textile carries tension, compression, torsion and/or bending loads. Composite structures incorporating such inflatable members or spars are also described and claimed.

The system may include a ground station, a tether attached to a ground station on a first end and to two or more bridles on a second, and a kite. The kite may include a main wing. Each bridle of the two or more bridles may be attached to the main wing, and the two or more bridles may be adapted to provide a torque on the kite to control a roll of the kite.

Wind energy systems, such as an Airborne Wind Turbine (“AWT”), may be used to facilitate conversion of kinetic energy to electrical energy. An AWT may include an aerial vehicle that flies in a path to convert kinetic wind energy to electrical energy. The aerial vehicle may be tethered to a ground station with a tether that terminates at a tether termination mount. In one aspect, the tether may be a conductive tether that can transmit electricity and/or electrical signals back and forth between the aerial vehicle and the ground station. The tether termination mount may include one or more gimbals that allow for the tether termination mount to rotate about one or more axis. In a further aspect, the tether termination mount may include a slip ring that allows for rotation of the tether without twisting the tether.

An improved kite launching, flying and control apparatus and system combines a target kite with a reel and control arm arrangement for power flexing a kite line under tension to launch the kite, while adjusting, unreeling and retrieving of the kite line with a reel having an integral brake and trigger mechanism, thereby controlling the launch and flight characteristics of the kite.

A control apparatus for a kite powered conveyance device. Port and starboard kite leads (28,32) and/or port and starboard kite control lines (30, 36) connect ends of a control bar (26, 26′) to port and starboard ends of a kite (12). A tether guide (34, 34′, 34″) is connected to one end of the control bar (26) or to one of the kite leads (28, 32). A harness (12) with a spreader bar (18) is adapted to be worn by a user of the kite powered conveyance device. An arm (20, 20′) is connected to the spreader bar (18). A tether connector (42, 42′) and a hook (22, 22′) are rotatably mounted on the arm (20, 20′) for rotation about the longitudinal axis of the arm (20, 20′). The hook (22, 22′) is hooked to the control bar (26, 26′) to connect the control bar (26, 26′) to the spreader bar (18). A tether (38) passes through the tether guide (34, 34′, 34″) and has its first end connected to the tether connector (42, 42′) and its second end connected to one of the Kite control lines (30, 36).

A kite winch allows a kite to be pulled-down from a high-elevation with reduced effort. The kite winch includes first and second sprockets coupled by a chain. The second sprocket has a larger diameter than the first sprocket. A spool for retaining kite string may be coupled with the second sprocket. A handle may be coupled with the first sprocket. When the handle is turned, the first sprocket engages the chain which in turn engages the second sprocket thereby turning the spool pulling-down the kite. An internal ratcheting mechanism within the first sprocket may selectively allow rotation of the first sprocket in one direction. A locking pin may selectively lock the second sprocket wheel to hold the string at a constant length. One or more adjustable chain tensioners may reduce slack in the chain by exerting at least a slight pressure on the chain.
