    摘要: A tool is provided for preforming a metallic starter tube section for subsequent internal high pressure forming in order to produce a tubular IHF-component. The tool includes a plurality of tool sections that can move relative to one another and that delimit, between them, a shaping cavity for receiving and forming the starter tube section. The cavity has a contour which is both derived from the shape of the IHF component to be produced and adapted to the circumference of the starter tube section to be formed, such that each cavity cross section perpendicular to a cavity longitudinal axis predefined by the starter tube section corresponds to the cross-sectional shape of the IHF component cross-section in the same position, reduced in its cross-sectional circumference to exactly the circumference of the starter tube section. A method is provided for producing such a tool, and a method is provided for producing a tube-like IHF component using such a tool.

    摘要: A method of hydro-forming an elongated tubular member that has areas of predicted high strain and areas of predicted low strain. The tubular member is initially deformed into a preliminary preform shape by compression in a preform die. Metal in the areas of predicted low strain is stretched during the preforming process by radially deforming the tube between two halves of the preform die. The preliminary preform is then expanded with internal hydro-forming pressure to form a preformed tube. The preformed tube is then hydro-formed into a final die to form the final shape for the part. The extra metal in the areas of low strain is stretched into the areas of high strain in the final hydro-forming operation.

And where the directions of opening and closing of the said die members are in the direction of the said tube axis such that the amount of force necessary to hold the die members in a closed position during said step of expanding, is kept to a minimum.

    摘要: A hydroformed control arm for a vehicle and a method of making the same is provided. The control arm includes a generally U-shaped member being hydroformed from a continuous, unitary tube. The generally U-shaped member includes varying cross-sectional areas along its length for improved structural integrity. The generally U-shaped member further includes a pair of pivot bores for enabling the control arm to pivot about a pivot axis. The U-shaped member still further including a ball joint cavity disposed near its apex for receiving a ball joint. The hydroformed control arm thereby eliminates the need for a ball joint bushing.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for manufacturing hollow sections with cross-sectional expansions in end portions thereof. A hollow blank is widened and calibrated by internal high pressure forming by means of a forming tool receiving it, and, after the calibration, is separated in the area of the widening while forming two hollow sections with cross-sectionally widened ends facing one another in the separated position. In order manufacture from a hollow blank hollow sections with the lowest possible reject rate and therefore in a reliable process, which are cross-sectionally widened on the end side by means of high degree for forming, the blank is widened while the forming tool is open and is simultaneously upset to form a rotationally symmetrical bulging hollow section by means of a pressure force which is axially directed from the outside to at least one of the two blank ends.
