摘要： A client computer and a server share fonts in an efficient manner. The client computer and server are capable of communicating data with each other. Character specifying data for specifying a character and a font ID for specifying the font of this character are stored in a layout information file and transmitted from the client computer to the server. On the basis of a layout information file, the server retrieves character image data (a bitmap text file) expressing the character as an image. The server transmits the found character image data to the client computer. When character image data cannot be found, the character image data is generated and is then transmitted from the server to the client computer.

The print control device comprises generating means for generating image data from intermediate data memorized in an intermediate buffer, a band raster buffer for memorizing said image data generated by said generating means, a cache buffer for allowing cache of said image data generated by said generating means, and control means for reserving said intermediate buffer for memorizing said intermediate data by extending said band raster buffer to a full-raster buffer of one page or deleting said cache buffer, when the capacity of said intermediate buffer is insufficient.

摘要： An outputting apparatus comprises: a discriminating circuit to discriminate whether the same pattern as the pattern to be developed at a predetermined position has already been developed in an outputting memory or not; a copying device to copy the same pattern to the predetermined position when the same pattern which has already been developed exists; a memory to store code information, decoration information, and developing position information of the pattern developed in the outputting memory; a cache memory to store patterns whose use frequencies are high; and a deciding circuit to decide whether the pattern in the outputting memory doesn't overlap another pattern or not. A process to develop a character symbol pattern into the outputting memory can be efficiently executed.

摘要： A system has an electronic device, such as a printer, and an accessory control device, such as a cartridge, that couples physically and electrically to the electronic device. The electronic device includes a microprocessor, memory, a connector adapted to couple with the accessory device, a data output means, and a data output notification means. The accessory device includes a microprocessor, memory, an interrupt request receiving means, a notification cancellation means and a data fetch means.The present invention transfers data efficiently between an electronic device and an accessory control device in cases in which information processing is performed by installing the accessory control device in the electronic device.In operation, an electronic control device of printer that is transferring data, reflects the data to be transferred in the lower 8 bits of the address signal line (CAB) and outputs it. Data corresponding to the address specified by this address is read from a ROM and held in latches. Holding of the data is announced by interrupt request signal AMDINTO or the signal EWRDY. When the microprocessor of the cartridge, receives this notification and reads the data held in the latches the transfer of data from the electronic device is complete.

摘要： An add-on control circuit device for insertion into electronic apparatus such as a laser printer having a first microprocessor with an address line connected to an add-on card connector, a ROM that stores programs for the microprocessor, and a data converter that provides data in the form of memory addresses. The add-on circuit uses a printed circuit board of mounted inside of an add-on cartridge or casing, made from high thermal transfer material such as aluminum. When the cartridge is inserted into a printer, the processor inside of the printer reads identification data stored on a ROM inside of the cartridge and conducts processing according to a specified processing program in response to the identification data. The microprocessor is located in a mounting area near the rear end of the cartridge, when viewed along the direction of insertion, so that the microprocessor is more effectively cooled by the surrounding air. Other embodiments incorporate cooling structures, thermal transfer materials disposed between heat generating elements and an outside casing, and ventilation holes.

摘要： The image processing performance of a present day or existing page printer, e.g., electrophotographic printer, is improved and accelerated with the use of a detachable intelligent cartridge which contains a CPU and necessary memory to process print data into image dated for the electronic control unit of the printer to which the cartridge is attached. Depending upon the page description language (PDL) to be employed, a cartridge can be selected for use with the printer and accelerate its PDL conversion and printing output. The intelligent cartridge CPU, which is different from the printer CPU, receives print data from the printer and, since the data bus connecting the intelligent cartridge and the electronic control unit of the printer has only a read only capability from the electronic control unit, data transfer to the cartridge is made possible by utilizing the print data as an index for the read address accomplished by the printer CPU. The bit image data is accomplished by the cartridge CPU from print data received via the printer CPU and after data development, the bit image data is transferred to the printer for hardcopy printout.

摘要： A character generator and method which requires reduced storage memory space for a character memory by virtue of generating bit fill patterns that fill character borders. The borders are, in turn, generated from partial borders that are local to the starting, ending, and any middle coordinate points of an imaginary baseline roughly drawn along the centerlines of strokes making up the character. As especially applied to Japanese and Chinese character sets, the character generator and method further improve on memory storage savings by separating basic characters from compound characters. The compound characters are then generated in terms of reshaped and repositioned basic characters, thus eliminating the redundancies that would otherwise exist.
