    摘要: A vehicle includes a suspended assembly that supports a main body and a suspension system for connecting the suspended assembly to the main vehicle body. The suspended assembly assists in providing directional control of the vehicle and stability in a lateral direction relative to a normal straight-ahead direction of travel of the vehicle. The suspension system including first and second suspension arrangements that control movement of the suspended assembly relative to the main vehicle body through a range of motion along first and second paths that are primarily perpendicular to the lateral direction. The second path differs from the first path such that the combination of the range of motion of the first suspension arrangement along the first path and the second path result in an overall range of motion for the suspended assembly relative to the main body that is defined by a surface area.

    摘要: A stability maintaining and shock absorbing bicycle front fork assembly comprises a steering spindle for pivotal mounting on a bicycle front frame. A single arm fork member having top and bottom ends is rigidly attached adjacent its top end to tope and bottom crown members rigidly attached to the steering spindle. A swing arm assembly is mounted on the single arm fork member to define a swing arm pivot axis oriented generally parallel to the displaceable axis of rotation, for pivotal movement of the swing arm assembly between a forward position, at which the swing arm assembly extends downwardly and rearwardly from the swing arm pivot axis and wherein the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed forwardly of the steering axis and rearwardly of the swing arm pivot axis, and a trailing position at which the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed closer to the steering axis than when in the forward position. A hub defining the displaceable axis of rotation is disposed on the swing arm assembly so as to permit mounting of a front bicycle wheel thereon. A pivotally jointed linkage arm assembly is pivotally mounted at its ends to the single arm fork member and to the swing arm assembly, respectively, and includes a lower linkage arm and an upper shock linkage arm assembly pivotally connected one to the other. A shock absorber is operatively mounted between the single arm fork member and the upper shock linkage arm assembly, to bias the swing arm assembly to its forward position.

    摘要: The present invention is adapted to be embodied in a steering and suspension arrangement for the front wheel of a motorcycle. Specifically, the invention relates to a front wheel swing arm type steering and suspension arrangement. In the arrangement of the present invention, upper and lower swing arms connect a motorcycle frame to a steering knuckle which extends along one side of the front wheel. The upper swing arm is shorter in length than the lower swing arm and is pivotally connected to the frame of the motorcycle at a point forwardly of a pivotal connection for the lower swing arm. According to the invention, the swing arms are positioned so that forwards and backwards lateral movement of the suspension system is kept to a minimum and the rake angle of the steering arrangement is held nearly constant during suspension travel, as when the motorcycle encounters a bump during operation. The swing arm suspension arrangement of the invention is compact and allows for good maneuverability of the motorcycle and also for easy access to the engine, as for repairs. A telescoping tube assembly having a pair of elongated tubes reciprocal within associated bores, for absorbing the swing motion of the suspension arrangement, also comprises a portion of the steering arrangement of the invention.
