Abstract: A combustion method in which heated flue gas heats a regenerator through which a mixture of fuel and flue gas is then passed to undergo endothermic reactions that produce syngas which is fed into a furnace together with a motive gas stream, wherein fuel is combusted with the motive gas stream to provide heat in alternate cycles.

Abstract: A process for transitioning molten glass in a glass furnace from one color to another color while minimizing the production of out-of-color specification transition glass. During the transition, a compensating agent is introduced into the molten glass to adjust the color of the molten glass being discharged from the furnace so that the discharged molten glass meets a target color specification, which effectively results in acceleration of the furnace color change compared to other conventional methods.

Abstract: A method of producing glass using submerged combustion melting includes supplying a combustible gas mixture to one or more submerged burners of a submerged combustion melter, combusting the combustible gas mixture supplied to the submerged burner(s) to produce combustion products, and discharging the combustion products from the submerged burner(s) directly into a glass melt contained within the submerged combustion melter to agitate and heat the glass melt. The glass melt is comprised of soda-lime-silica glass and has a redox ratio. Additionally, the disclosed method involves controlling one or more operating conditions of the submerged combustion melter selected from (1) an oxygen-to-fuel ratio of the combustible gas mixture supplied to each of the submerged burners, (2) a residence time of the glass melt, and (3) a gas flux through the glass melt.

Abstract: A coaxial fuel and oxygen pipe apparatus can include a fuel pipe and an oxygen pipe, wherein the fuel pipe is contained within the oxygen pipe and the oxygen pipe comprises an internal diameter that is continuous without diameter changes along a length of the oxygen pipe. The fuel pipe can include an internal diameter that is continuous without diameter variations along a length of the fuel pipe. A discharge block includes a diverging section and a discharge that forms a final outlet with respect to the fuel pipe and the oxygen pipe. The discharge block is configured with two angles that can facilitate conditions for eliminating recirculation, wherein the two angles are matched to an expansion rate of the products of combustion to maintain a positive pressure throughout a final discharge from the final outlet.

Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing glass includes a furnace. A doghouse of the furnace receives and melts solid-glass forming material using one or more submerged combustion burners. An elongated tank positioned downstream of the doghouse includes a melting chamber, a refining chamber, and a thermal conditioning. The melting chamber has in inlet through which molten glass is received from the doghouse. The refining chamber is positioned downstream of the melting chamber and receives molten glass from the melting chamber. The thermal conditioning chamber is positioned downstream of the refining chamber and receives molten glass from the refining chamber. Additionally, the thermal conditioning chamber delivers molten glass to a glass forming machine.
