    摘要: To improve the operation of high-pressure discharge lamps by preventing pature deformation of the end face of an anode due to extremely high temperature, with subsequent vaporization of tungsten material from the electrode and deposition on the bulb or vessel of the high-pressure discharge lamp, the electrode is axially forged, for example by hammering, to compact and change the grain structure of the electrode towards a finer grain than elsewhere in the electrode and increase the hardness of the electrode across the end face surface. Both--higher density and finer grain structure--increase the parameters which characterize the lifetime of electrodes, and hence of the lamp, namely heat conductivity and resistance against deformation under heat stress.

    摘要: To insure that lamps which have a non-rotation symmetrical feature or strure with respect to aligned bases (e.g., a tipped-off exhaust or pumping stub) are placed in a predetermined preferred operating position when inserted into socket terminals (2a, 2b), the lamp bases are formed with stepped surface abnormalities (10a, 10b), for example, in the form of recesses or projections from a terminal engagement surface (8a, 8b) extending perpendicularly to the lamp axis (A--A); socket springs (2a, 2b) have matching surface abnormalities which interengage with the surface abnormality on the base, for example by being formed with ridges, or depressions. The lamp thus can be inserted in such bases only if the respective surface abnormalities on the lamp bases and in the socket terminals can engage. The lamp, however, can be used also with socket terminals which do not have such interengagement surface abnormalities, so that the lamps are universally usable with specific location-determining sockets, or with sockets where the position of the lamp must be determined by a user.

A pair of electrodes is located at one end of the capillary tube and disposed within respective bores. An ionizable medium is enclosed within the capillary tube and includes neon at a pressure from about 300 to 600 torr. When energized, the ionizable medium generates an arc discharge between the electrodes consisting primarily of radiation in the range of from 590 to 670 nanometers. An outer jacket of vitreous material may surround the capillary tube and contain an inert gas (e.g., nitrogen) at a predetermined pressure.

    摘要: A gaseous-discharge lamp has a valve defining an interior of the lamp in which an inert gas, such as xenon, is confined. A cup-shaped reflector is disposed in the interior of the lamp, whose inner surface cross-section is preferably a hyperbola or an ellipse so that a collimated light spot is projected outwardly of the lamp or a focused light beam is available. The reflector has a larger-diameter opening facing a light projection window formed on one face of the valve and a bottom portion formed with a hole. An anode and a cathode are disposed in confrontation with each other in a space surrounded by the reflector. A trigger probe electrode intervenes between the anode and the cathode. A sparker electrode is disposed outside of the reflector and in the vicinity of the hole formed in the bottom portion thereof. By the provision of the reflector in the interior of the lamp, light of high radiation intensity is produced from the lamp without increasing the size of the lamp.
