摘要： According to an example aspect of the present invention, there is provided a travelling wave parametric amplifier comprising a waveguide transmission line comprising therein at least ten Josephson elements, wherein each of the at least ten Josephson element comprises a loop, with exactly one Josephson junction of first size on one half of the loop and at least two Josephson junctions of a second size on a second half of the loop, the second size being larger than the first size, a flux bias line configured to generate a magnetic flux threading each of the at least one loop, and a set of resistors coupled with the flux bias line.

摘要： Techniques relate to an on-chip Josephson parametric converter. A Josephson ring modulator includes four nodes. A lossless on-chip flux line is capacitively coupled to two adjacent nodes of the four nodes of the Josephson ring modulator. The lossless on-chip flux line has an input port configured to receive a pump drive signal that couples differentially to the two adjacent nodes of the of the Josephson ring modulator. The pump drive signal thereby excites a common mode of the on-chip Josephson parametric converter.

摘要： A cascading selective microwave directional amplifier (cascade) includes a set of Josephson devices, each Josephson device in the set having a corresponding operating bandwidth of microwave frequencies. Different operating bandwidths have different corresponding center frequencies. A series coupling is formed between first Josephson device from the set and an nth Josephson device from the set. The series coupling causes the first Josephson device to amplify a signal of a first frequency from a frequency multiplexed microwave signal (multiplexed signal) in a first signal flow direction through the series coupling and the nth Josephson device to amplify a signal of an nth frequency in a second signal flow direction through the series, where the second signal flow direction is opposite of the first signal flow direction.

摘要： An on-chip Josephson parametric converter is provided. The on-chip Josephson parametric converter includes a Josephson ring modulator. The on-chip Josephson parametric converter further includes a lossless power divider, coupled to the Josephson ring modulator, having a single input port and two output ports for receiving a pump drive signal via the single input port, splitting the pump drive signal symmetrically into two signals that are equal in amplitude and phase, and outputting each of the two signals from a respective one of the two output ports. The pump drive signal excites a common mode of the on-chip Josephson parametric converter.

摘要： This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus related to a parametric amplifier. In one aspect, a device includes an electron source electrode, a counter electrode, and a pumping electrode. The electron source electrode may include a conductive base and a flexible conductor. The flexible conductor may have a first end and a second end, with the second end of the flexible conductor being coupled to the conductive base. A cross-sectional dimension of the flexible conductor may be less than about 100 nanometers. The counter electrode may be disposed proximate the first end of the flexible conductor and spaced a first distance from the first end of the flexible conductor. The pumping electrode may be disposed proximate a length of the flexible conductor and spaced a second distance from the flexible conductor.

摘要： A system and method for high power parametric amplification based on performing amplification in a frequency domain after time domain pulses are optically Fourier transformed, to overcome bandwidth limitations. In a nutshell, a first optical Fourier transformation of a seed spectrum is performed and parametric amplification is carried out in this spatially dispersed frequency plane. As a consequence, individual parts of the spectrum can be amplified using an optical amplification medium comprising a series of optical amplification units, such as different narrowband crystals, placed one next to each other. Each crystal is tuned independently to optimize its corresponding spectral slice. A second optical Fourier transformation recovers the time domain laser pulses. This method enables scalability of amplified bandwidth and pulse energy at the same time.

摘要： An optical parametric amplifier (OPA) driven with at least two pump waves. The pump waves may be configured such that the OPA produces uniform exponential gain over a range of wavelengths that extends, for example, at least 30 nm on either side of the average pump-wave wavelength. In addition, since the Brillouin scattering limit applies to each pump wave independently, substantially twice the amount of energy may be pumped into an OPA of the present invention compared to that in the corresponding single pump-wave OPA of the prior art. An OPA of the present invention may be used in a WDM communication system and configured for simultaneous signal amplification and wavelength conversion.
