Abstract: A micrometer sized multi-directional thermal actuator capable of repeatable and rapid displacement in a substantially horizontal direction, a substantially vertical direction, and/or a combination thereof. The multi-directional thermal actuator constructed on a surface of a substrate includes three or more beams each cantilevered from one or more anchors at a first end to extend generally parallel to the surface of the substrate. A member mechanically and electrically couples the distal ends of the beams. Application of current to a circuit comprising combinations of any two or more of the beams displaces the member in one of three or more non-parallel radial directions, respectively.

Abstract: A micro-mechanical device including a gimbaled micro-mirror positionable by a one or more thermal actuators. The thermal actuators are not attached to the micro-mirror. Rather, the micro-mirror is retained to the substrate by one or more gimbals. Abstract: A micrometer sized, single-stage, horizontal and vertical thermal actuator capable of repeatable and rapid movement of a micrometer-sized optical device off the surface of a substrate. The horizontal and vertical thermal actuator is constructed on a surface of a substrate. At least one hot arm has a first end anchored to the surface and a free end located above the surface. A cold arm has a first end anchored to the surface and a free end. The cold arm is located above and laterally offset from the hot arm relative to the surface. The cold arm is adapted to provide controlled bending near the first end thereof. A member mechanically and electrically couples the free ends of the hot and cold arms such that the actuator exhibits horizontal and vertical displacement when current is applied to at least the hot arm.

A second coating covers at least a portion of the first coating. The second coating includes a second polymer. The second coating has ellagic acid dispersed in the second polymer such that the second polymer releases the ellagic acid as the second polymer degrades. In some embodiments, systems and methods are disclosed.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell comprising a first electrode separated from a second electrode by a shutdown separator. The first electrode can comprise a first current collector substrate having a first active material composite layered thereon. A battery including the electrochemical cell and methods for manufacturing the battery are also described.

Abstract: An apparatus for providing an accurate estimate of remaining runtime of a battery is described. The apparatus comprises a fuel gauge and processing circuitry coupled to the fuel gauge. The processing circuitry can receive an indicator of remaining battery capacity from the fuel gauge. The processing circuitry can calculate remaining battery energy based on the remaining battery capacity and further based on an amount of power expected to be used by a battery load during an expected alarm time. The processing circuitry can calculate remaining runtime based on the remaining battery energy. A method and system are also described.

Abstract: The disclosure describes an enhancement to lead monitoring techniques, which uses a sensing integrity counter (SIC). The techniques of this disclosure may enhance lead monitoring techniques by detecting possible sensing issues based on a significant increase in periodic, e.g., daily, SIC counts relative to previous periods. Such issues with sensing cardiac signals via cardiac leads can result in the measurement of very short intervals between what appears to be sensed heart beats. Examples of issues include insulation breach, conductor fracture, or poor electrical connection, which may cause noise that appears to be an R-wave. The IMD may detect the noise, along with actual R-waves, and determine that there are relatively short (e.g., less than a threshold) intervals between the "R-waves." A significant increase in the number or frequency of very short intervals between R-waves may indicate the date/time of a significant sensing issue.
