Abstract:
Current krill oil extracts are liquid at room temperature and include only about 45-55% phospholipids. As the purity of phospholipids increases, the extracts become more viscous, making them difficult to handle and process. The invention mixes these pure materials with viscosity-reducing agents to make them amenable to processes such as encapsulation. Thus the invention retains the useful liquid characteristics of known krill extracts while providing much higher concentrations of phospholipids.
Abstract:
A method of detecting the presence of Trichomonas vaginalis in a sample. The method involves detecting a target sequence taken from the TVAG_003780 gene in a sequence-specific manner. The method may involve a step of amplifying the target sequence, and may involve hybridising the target sequence to a nucleic acid probe and identifying hybridisation.
Abstract:
A valve for a fluidic cartridge comprises a valve chamber having first and second openings connected to first and second passageways, respectively;a flexible membrane movable between an open position, in which the flexible membrane is spaced apart from the first and second openings to permit fluid to flow between the passageways and a closed position, in which the flexible membrane seals against at least one of the first and second openings to prevent fluid flow between the passageways; and an actuator configured to act on the flexible membrane to move it from its open position to its closed position, the actuator comprising a latching mechanism configured to latch the actuator such that it maintains the flexible membrane in its closed position.
Abstract:
A method for immunising a subject against serogroup X meningococcus by administering a vaccine comprising one, two or all three of: (i) a meningococcal fHbp antigen; (ii) a meningococcal NHBA antigen; and/or (iii) a meningococcal NadA antigen. The vaccine may also include meningococcal outer membrane vesicles.
Abstract:
A device for filling a sample bag, comprising first and second walls connected so as to define a defined space, the device being designed to receive a sample bag such that the sample bag can be filled to a measured volume. The device is useful for accurately depositing a measured volume in a flexible sample bag when taking in-process and product fluid samples during manufacture, testing, and quantifying of pharmaceutical compositions.
Abstract:
The efficacy of S.aureus vaccines can be enhanced by adjuvanting S.aureus antigens with a mixture of a TLR agonist (preferably a TLR7 agonist) and an insoluble metal salt (preferably an aluminium salt). The TLR agonist is typically adsorbed to the metal salt. A S.aureus antigen can also be adsorbed to the metal salt.
Abstract:
A method for immunising a human subject, wherein the subject receives (i) an immunogenic composition comprising bacterial vesicles and (ii) an antipyretic, and wherein the immunogenic composition and the antipyretic are administered to the subject within 24 hours of each other. Paracetamol significantly reducesfever rates without negatively affecting the immunogenicity either of a meningococcal vesicle vaccine or of concomitantly-administered antigens.
Abstract:
An improved method for the detection of parvovirus B19 in a sample is provided, the improvement consisting of detecting a parvovirus B19 non-structural protein in said sample.
Abstract:
The invention provides a synthetic C. difficile PS-II cell wall saccharide. The invention also provides a process for purifying C. difficile PS-II saccharide from C. difficile bacterial cells resulting in reduced contamination. The saccharides may be used in vaccines, particularly as conjugates with carrier proteins.
Abstract:
Hyperblebbing Salmonella strains are generated by disrupting one or more components of the Tol-Pal system, such as TolR. The blebs from these strains are useful immunogens for vaccination. The individual proteins found in these blebs can also be used as immunogens.
