An electrosurgical forceps (100) includes an end effector (115) including a first jaw member (150) having a proximal portion (150a) including a first jaw guide member (152b) and a distal portion (150b) including a first tissue contacting surface (154), and a second jaw member (160) having a proximal portion (160a) including a second jaw guide member (162b) and a distal portion (160b) including a second tissue contacting surface (164). The first and second tissue contacting surfaces (154, 164) each includes a shear edge (154d, 164d) disposed between stepped surfaces (154a, 154b, 164a, 164b). The jaw members (150, 160) are vertically movable between an open position and a first approximated position in which the tissue contacting surfaces (154, 164) vertically oppose and laterally align with each other, and laterally movable between the first approximated position and a second approximated position to laterally displace the tissue contacting surfaces (154, 164) with respect to each other. The jaw guide members (152b, 162b) control an open angle between the jaw members (150, 160) during movement between the first and second approximated positions.

A laparoscopic surgical device is provided, including a removable tool-comprising shaft having an outer shaft and an inner actuation rod that may be removably or permanently connected together. A handle of the device includes a two-button mechanism for engaging and releasing the removable tool-comprising shaft. The two-button mechanism is configured to engage overlapping corresponding apertures of the outer shaft and the inner rod that extends through the outer shaft, and the handle may include a variety of configurations that can readily interchangeably be used with different tool bodies.

The invention relates to a correlated set for minimal invasive surgery comprising a surgical instrument and a pattern generating member, a surgical system, a training kit, a method of training and a meth of performing a minimal invasive surgery. The surgical instrument comprises a handle portion, a surgical tool and a body portion connecting the handle portion to the surgical tool. The pattern generating member comprises a pattern light source and a projector for projecting a light pattern. The projector is adapted for being at least temporarily fixed to the body portion of the surgical instrument such that a movement of said surgical tool results in a correlated movement of said projector.

An assembly comprising: an iris retractor forceps comprising two forceps legs which join together at a proximal junction, the forceps legs comprising distal graspers for grasping an iris retractor or a holder for such an iris retractor; and a locking element slidingly received in a groove in the forceps legs, the locking element sliding between at least two positions, the at least two positions comprising: a first position in which the forceps legs are spread apart, and a second position in which the forceps legs are squeezed together, wherein in the second position the locking element is held in a locked position.
