They are prepared by reacting alkoxylated fatty acids with diols and dialkyl carbonates.
Abstract:
The invention relates to metal working fluids being oil-in-water emulsions comprising alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidones as surfactants for emulsifying the oil in water. Said alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidones having a molecular weight of about 1,000 up to 50,000 provide emulsions showing a high emulsion stability under varying and severe processing conditions of metal working fluids. Further, advantages of the metal working fluids according to the invention are the narrow distribution of the droplet size, the high stability against varying temperature, the high stability against varying quality/composition of the make-up water, a high capacity of dispersing metal fines in the metal working fluid as well as excellent film forming characteristics.
Abstract:
Dry film lubricant coatings are provided by using a silicone resin binder, either as an aqueous emulsion or in a solvent-based system, to fix an alkaline earth metal fluoride to a substrate. The compositions used to apply the coatings may also include relatively minor amounts of xylene, ammonium benzoate, a wetting agent, and/or a porosity-inducing agent - although none of those additives remains in the cured coating. Multi-layer dry film lubricant coatings are also disclosed, with the multi-layer coating having a basecoat layer as described above, and a topcoat layer made of a layer-lattice solid such as graphite or molybdenum disulfide, and a silicone resin, aluminum phosphate or an alkali metal silicate binder.
Abstract:
An emulsion used to lubricate the surface of a steel sheet, comprising an additive corresponding to one of the following formulae: (R1,2-O-)1,2-PSS-(CH2)n-COO-(CH2)m-CH3, (R1,2-O-)1,2-PSS-CH2- phi -O-H, (R1,2-O-)1,2-PSS-CH2- phi -O-(CH2)n,-COO-(CH2)m,-CH3, where PSS designates a dithiophosphate function. The naked sheets of steel that are treated with said emulsion have very good tribological properties even when the density of the emulsion thus applied is less than or equal to 1g/m when dry. The invention enables dry-looking oiled sheets to be obtained, whereby no re-oiling is required before forming even by die stamping.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a lubricant which contains solid particles that are dispersed in an organic matrix and have a mean particle size of between 1 and 500 nm. The lubricant preferably contains between 0.05 and 30 % by weight, in relation to the total formulation, of solid particles. The organic matrix is preferably selected from among native or mineral oils or fats, carboxylic acid salts with between 12 and 44 carbon atoms, waxes and organic polymers. The solid particles are preferably selected from the metal oxides, metal hydroxides, metal nitrides, metal carbides, metal phosphides, metal borides and metal sulfides and preferably have a hydrophobic coating. The above lubricants can be used to lubricate parts moving in relation to each other, as forming aid, cutting fluid and rolling oil emulsion.
Abstract:
A phosphate conversion coating of 6 to 20 g/m is formed on a metal substrate, using an electrolytic solution containing zinc ions, phosphate ions, and an auxiliary acid, preferably nitric acid, and passing an electric current, with the substrate serving as the cathode, for a few seconds through the substrate, the electrolyte solution, and a counterelectrode. This provides a method for forming a lubricative film suitable for cold working without generating any sludge and at a high level of productivity. Lubrication performance may be checked by means of a backward punching test. The dies (2) are set to bind the circumference of the cylindrical test specimen (1) and the specimen is then subjected to a downward stroke from a punch (3).
