The invention relates to a method for producing an organic composition containing a functional component selected from among the group comprising a thermoplastic polymer, an enzyme, an initiator, a paraffin, an oil, a dye, and a hair or skin care substance. Said method encompasses the following steps: i) ia) an n-nonyl ester obtained by reacting an n-nonyl alcohol component with another component that can react with the n-nonyl alcohol component in order to form an n-nonyl ester is supplied as an additive, ib) the functional component is supplied, and optionally ic) at least one other additive is supplied; and ii) the n-nonyl ester, the functional component, and the at least one other optional additive are mixed. The invention further relates to a method producing a molded article, a method for producing a packaging material, the use of at least one n-nonyl ester, the use of a molded article, a method for cleaning the surfaces of boreholes, boring devices, or borings, methods for producing a borehole, and methods for producing an oil or a gas.

A novel ashless polymeric dispersant is claimed which is suitable for use in an automotive lubricant composition. The ashless polymeric dispersant has a number average molecular weight of between 200 and 15,000 and derived from the reaction of a polar head group, which comprises a polar moiety having more than one amine, alcohol, acid or halogen functionality with two or more polar tail groups where each polar tail group comprises a polymeric backbone of 2 to 30 monomeric repeat units, each repeat unit comprising a hydrocarbon chain functionalised by the presence of at least one electronegative element or moiety. The dispersant has good dispersancy properties, when used as a sole dispersant or in combination with other dispersants. It provides enhanced seal resistance and has good oxidative stability in automotive applications as compared to current commercial products. Furthermore the low temperature viscosity of an automotive lubricant composition containing the dispersant is superior to that of a composition with current commercial dispersants.

The preferred carboxylic acid mixture includes heptanic (C 7 ) acid, caprylic/capric (C 8-10 ) acid and isononanoic (3, 5, 5-trimethylhexanoic) acid (iso-C 9 ). The polyol base stock is mixed with an additive package that includes a viscosity index improver (tackifier), antioxidants, extreme pressure/antiwear agents and a corrosion inhibitor. The addditive package may be added in up to about 20 percent by weight of the lubricant to provide a viscosity of the lubricant at 40 °C of 270-330 cSt and at 100 °C of no less than about 25.0 cSt.

The invention provides fluorocarbon refrigerant compositions that offer alternatives, and are considered environmentally safe substitutes, for CFC's and HCFC's. The compositions of the invention are useful as refrigerants, including for use in chillers, aerosol propellants, metered dose inhalers, heat transfer media, gaseous dielectrics, fire extinguishing agents, foam blowing agents, solvents and sterilants. The compositions of the invention are soluble in lubricating oils and are, therefore, particularly useful as R-22 retrofit fluids.

The working fluid consists essentially of a heat transfer fluid and a lubricant that is miscible and is otherwise compatible with the heat transfer fluid at all operating temperatures of the refrigerant system. The method is directed particularly to chlorine-free fluoro-group organic fluids and more particularly to hydrofluorocarbon heat transfer fluids. The preferred lubricants comprise polyol ester basestocks and compounded polyol esters that are highly miscible with such hydrofluorocarbon heat transfer fluids.

A metal working oil composition which contains no chlorine compounds and is equal or superior in performance to those containing a chlorine compound when used in low-speed or high-load cutting such as broaching or gun drill processing. The composition is obtained by compounding 100 parts by weight of a lube base oil comprising (a) 0 to 30 wt.% mineral oil base and (b) 70 to 100 wt.% synthetic oil base containing pi electrons with (c) 0.1 to 25 parts by weight of a sulfur compound extreme-pressure additive and (d) 0.1 to 7 parts by weight of a sulfonate of an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal.
