The invention describes multiphase lubricant concentrates with enhanced properties to be used in acqueous working fluids from exploratory drilling of soil, containing liquid or solid organic constituents at room temperature with a lubricating effect (O-phase) in addition to emulsifiers which are finely dispersed in a closed aqueous phase (W-phase). The concentrates are characterized by the fact that the system consisting of an oil phase, a water phase and emulsifiers has a phase inversion temperature (PIT) above room temperature and is produced by heating the multiphase system to temperatures equal to/above the PIT and subsequently cooled to smaller PIT values. The invention also relates to the use of such multiphase lubricant concentrates as an additive to water based working fluids in the field of exploratory drilling of soil and further treatment of such drilling.

The invention concerns a lubricant based on silicone oils or silicone greases and is characterized in that it comprises between 95 and 99 wt.% silicone oil or silicone grease and between 1 and 5 wt.% organic compounds selected from the group comprising trichloromethyl compounds of general formula (I) and having at least one oxygen atom in the sp configuration. The invention provides a highly resistant silicone oil for lubricating metal parts which considerably reduces the wear of these metal parts.

A "cold-clash" gear problem associated with vehicular manual transmissions exposed to the cold is overcome by use of a special all-synthetic gear oil composition. The composition is composed of base oil and specified additive components. The base oil is a blend of dialkyl ester of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having a maximum pour point of about -55 DEG C and a maximum kinematic viscosity at 100 DEG C of about 4 cSt, and three hydrogenated poly- alpha -olefin oligomers having kinematic viscosities at 100 DEG C of about 40, about 4-8 cSt and about 2 cSt in specified proportions. The additive components comprise an organic sulfur-containing antiwear and/or extreme pressure agent, an organic phosphorus-containing antiwear and/or extreme pressure agent, a copper corrosion inhibitor, a rust inhibitor, a foam inhibitor, and an ashless dispersant. The gear oil has a boron content of about 0.0025 to about 0.07 wt%.

Oil-in-water emulsions based on silicone oils may be prepared by emulsifying (A) 10 to 90 % by weight of a silicone oil which undergoes no phase inversion in water and in the presence of the addition product of 4 moles ethylene oxide and 1 mole coconut fat alcohol (C12/14); (B) 0.5 to 30 % by weight of a non-ionic emulsifier with 8 to 18 HLB value; (C) 0 or 0.1 to 30 % by weight of a co-emulsifier from the group of the fatty alcohols with 12 to 22 C atoms or of the partial esters of polyols with 3 to 6 C atoms with fatty acids with 12 to 22 C atoms; and (D) 1 to 50 % by weight of a special silicone-free non-ionic organic compound containing at least one alkyl residue with 6 to 22 C atoms, in the presence of 8 to 85 % by weight water at a temperature above the melting point of the mixture of components (A) to (D). The emulsion is then heated up to a temperature within or above the phase inversion temperature range - or the emulsion is prepared at said temperature - and the emulsion is then cooled down to a temperature below the phase inversion temperature range and if required is further diluted with water.

A novel additive combination comprises a high molecular weight butyl/hexyl methacrylate viscosity index improver, a perfluoroalkylsulfonate anti-erosion additive, a 3,4-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate or a diepoxide acid scavenger, a di(alkylphenyl)amine, and a phenolic antioxidant comprising a mixture of a 2,4,6-trialkylphenol and a hindered polyphenol composition selected from the group consisting of bis(3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxyaryl)methane, 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyaryl)benzene and mixtures thereof. Preferably, the composition further comprises a 4,5-dihydroimidazole derivative to enhance the stability of the fluid.
