摘要: Sensors and methods for determining the state of charge of a battery are described. The state of charge is determined in some instances by applying a current perturbation having a frequency to the battery terminals, monitoring the response signal, and determining the phase of the response signal. The phase may be correlated to the state of charge of the battery, so that once the phase is determined, a determination of the state of charge of the battery may be made. In some situations, the state of charge may be used to determine the operating condition of a load connected to the battery. In some embodiments, the state of charge may be used to determine whether the battery is defective.

摘要: An impedance sensing circuit includes three impedance elements and a sensing element arranged in a bridge configuration. A first input terminal is coupled to two of the impedance elements to apply a stimulus signal. In a mutual-sensing mode, a second input terminal is coupled to the third impedance element and the sensing impedance element to apply an opposite phase stimulus signal. The impedance sensing circuit may be configured in a self-sensing mode, in which the opposite phase stimulus signal is decoupled from the third impedance element and the sensing impedance element. At least one of the impedance elements is variable and may be adjusted to balance an offset impedance load on the sensing element.

摘要: An inexpensive IR photodetector assembly that can provide high performance in SWIR applications, such as LIDAR. The photodetector assembly can operate as a photodiode, a phototransistor, or can include both a photodiode and a phototransistor. The hybrid photodetector can be composed of one or more absorber layer materials from a first semiconductor family, e.g., p-type InGaAs, laying on one or more wide-band gap semiconductor transducer layer materials from a second semiconductor family, e.g., aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) and gallium nitride (GaN), or AlGaN/n-GaN. As such, the absorber layer material and the wide band gap materials can be from two different semiconductor families, making the IR photodetector a hybrid of semiconductor families. After shining IR light onto the absorber layer material, the photo-generated electron-hole pairs can be collected as photocurrent in the photo-voltaic mode.

摘要: A three-axis accelerometer includes a single, integrated mass including at least one lateral (x-y) proof mass and at least one vertical (z) proof mass. The vertical proof mass is arranged as a teeter-totter mass, which is located within the lateral proof mass. The vertical proof mass is mechanically coupled to the lateral proof mass with one or more torsional springs, and the lateral proof mass is mechanically coupled to one or more anchors with one or more lateral springs. The at least one vertical proof mass may be symmetrically positioned about one or more axes of the three-axis accelerometer, so that the 3-axis accelerometer has in-plane symmetry. The three-axis accelerometer may be less susceptible for mechanical cross-talk or noise and may provide a smaller packaged solution for sensing acceleration in three directions.

摘要: A signal acquisition or conditioning amplifier can be configured and controlled to use correlated doubling sampling (CDS) of a differential input signal, and a storage capacitor in a capacitive or other feedback network, a low power operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) capable of being powered down between CDS samplings, and which can be operated in a manner that provides good performance characteristics while still providing low or efficient power consumption. The amplifier and other signal processing circuitry can allow power to be scaled down, when less signal measurement throughput is needed, and to be scaled up, when more signal measurement throughput is needed. Such flexibility can help make the present approach useful for a wide range of signal acquisition and measurement applications. Precharging via butler amplifiers can provide improved signal acquisition circuitry effective input impedance.
