Abstract:
Nuclear quadrupole resonance substance detection at a distance is provided by crossed or overlapping high frequency beams in which the frequency of one of the beams is offset with respect to the frequency of the other beam by an amount equal to the resonant frequency of the non-linear material to be detected. The presence of energy at the offset frequency within the overlapping beams pumps any non-linear material within the overlapping beams to cause stimulated emission which is detected, in one embodiment, utilizing a network analyzer, along with correlation of the detected stimulated emission signature with a library of signatures for predetermined substances.
Abstract:
A method of bridging radio communication networks having incompatible transmission protocols. Network radios each configured for the protocol of an associated network are provided. An audio terminal of each radio outputs analog audio signals that the radio detects over its network, and a microphone terminal of the radio inputs analog audio signals for transmission over the network. The signals from the audio terminal of a given network radio are converted into digital audio signals and input to a selected port of a server that implements a PBX application for bridging the networks selectively with one another. The digital audio signals input to the selected port are converted into corresponding analog audio signals and applied to the microphone terminal of each network radio with which the given network radio is to be bridged. Telephone devices having access to a PSTN can also be bridged with a network by the PBX application.
Abstract:
A system for enabling interoperability among various kinds of communications equipment and information transmission formats on the battlefield or during tactical missions. The system includes a multi-message translator (MMT) for translating a source text message having a first set of word fields defined according to a source message format, into a sink message having a second set of word fields defined according to a sink message format. The system also includes a voice bridging gateway (VBG) for bridging multiple voice communication networks having associated transmission protocols that are incompatible with one another. Dismounted soldiers obtain location based services including geo-referenced maps, and tactical communications including voice and text messaging, using smart phones or other lightweight COTS client devices that link through a personal networking node (PNN) server to one or both of the MMT and the VBG.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus and method for adjusting an inter-pupil distance between eyepieces associated with a pair of telescopic elements in a viewing system with each of the telescopic elements having a corresponding rectilinear focal plane array at the focal plane thereof. The apparatus includes a mechanical drive for moving the focal plane arrays associated with the telescopic elements, wherein the inter-pupil distance is adjusted without skewing an orientation of the focal plane arrays, wherein distortion associated with inter-pupil distance adjustment is eliminated.
Abstract:
A system and method of integrated data registration (IDR) is presented. A method receives a first position data of a fixed or moving object from a first source that is remote from the object. A second position data of the object is then received from a second source that is different than the first source and that is determined independently from the first position data. Correction estimates are determined based, at least in part, on the second position data. The first position data is then corrected with the correction estimates.
Abstract:
Rather than using balanced transmission lines the stimulated response due to nuclear quadrupole resonance can be detected using a single monopole, with multiple monopoles improving substance detection.
Abstract:
A plurality of modules each including at least a pair of series connected power MOSFETs are configured between a plurality of DC voltage sources, and a plurality output terminals for connection to respective loads, are controlled for selectively applying power to the loads via time delay switching incorporating forward biased intrinsic diodes of the MOSFETs in a given current path during initial application of power to a load, whereby a predetermined period of time after turning on one of the series connected MOSFETs, the associated other MOSFET is turned on to shunt its intrinsic diode for reducing the resistance in the current path to maximize current flow. The configuration of the plurality of power MOSFETs is also controlled for selectively providing bi-directional current flow between said plurality of DC voltage sources.
Abstract:
In summary, a vertical metalized transition in the form of a via goes from the back side of a high thermal conductivity substrate and through any semiconductor layers thereon to a patterned metalized strip, with the substrate having a patterned metalized layer on the back side that is provided with a keep away zone dimensioned to provide impedance matching for RF energy coupled through the substrate to the semiconductor device while at the same time permitting the heat generated by the semiconductor device to flow through the high thermal conductivity substrate, through the back side of the substrate and to a heat sink.
Abstract:
A combined large mode area, fiber cable amplifier and laser beam transport fiber cable is disclosed that transports laser beams output from a compact, high power, solid state laser to remote locations while improving the beam quality and amplifying the beam to compensate for losses in the fiber cable. The fiber cable is clad and is cladding pumped to compensate for the losses in the fiber cable.
Abstract:
A multi-band whip antenna having a 30 MHz to 2 GHz bandwidth and an L- band dipole has its coverage extended up to 6 GHz by eliminating nulls and reducing VSWR problems that are cured through the utilization of a sleeve over the feedpoint of the L-band antenna. Chokes in the form of sleeves are provided at either end of the L-band dipole to shorten the L-band antenna for preventing reverse polarity currents at the L-band antenna feedpoint, with the antenna further including the use of double shielded meander lines to provide improved performance between 410-512 MHz and in which a capacitance sleeve is added at the bottom of the L-band antenna to effectively elongate the antenna below the L-band to permit operation below 700 MHz.
