Abstract:
A process for the production of ambergris-type labdane spiroketals of general formulae (I) and (II), where R represents oxygen or sulphur, useful in the perfumery industry, the said process being characterized by the intramolecular cyclisation of the epoxyketone or its thio analog of general formula (III), where R1 represents COCH3 and R2 oxygen or sulphur. The starting materials are obtained by an oxidation step of labdane diterpenes of general formula (IV), where R is a tertiary allyl alcohol or vinyl acid, optionally esterified with an alkyl group, to form an intermediate methyl ketone of formula (V), where R = COCH3, with yields higher than 60 %, followed by an epoxidation step with peracid, with yields of the so-obtained epoxyketone III not below 80 %, and, finally, by treatment of III with various catalysts, in homogeneous or heterogeneous medium, the choice of catalyst depending on the desired selectivity, which can reach 100 % of I or 100 % of II, or lead to mixtures enriched in the odoriferous spiroketal II.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the production of mixed-metal-oxide inorganic pigments, using industrial waste as raw materials, comprising the following steps: (i) characterization and selection of wastes; (ii) their treatment, if required; (iii) formulation + dosing + mixing of components; (iv) drying + calcination; and (v) washing + milling. Selected wastes might be used in the as- received condition or after drying or calcination. The present invention deals with materials that are produced by colorants or pigments producers mainly for use in the ceramic sector, since formulations are stable at high temperatures and act as colorants of glazes or ceramic bodies. The use of high temperatures might also assure the desirable inertization of possible hazardous species.
Abstract:
A toy building element with coupling studs (6) and/or coupling skirts (7) that are complementary therewith for being interconnected with other toy building elements provided with corresponding coupling studs and/or coupling skirts, said interconnection taking place in an axial direction of the coupling studs and/or the coupling skirts. The toy building element comprises a top element (1) and a bottom element (2) that can be interconnected by means of coupling means that are releasable exclusively by rotation about an axis (A) in parallel with the axial direction of the coupling studs (6) and/or the coupling skirts (7). Besides, the toy building comprises at least one intermediate element (8), said top element (1) being interconnectable with an upper end of the intermediate element (8), while the bottom element (2) can be interconnected with a lower end of the intermediate element (8).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to new saponins for increasing the immune response in mammals and finds application in the field of immunology, supplying in particular new adjuvants, obtained by hemi-synthesis, starting from terpene sources. It also embraces the methods for the use of the new saponins as adjuvants to increase the immune response to an antigen in a mammal. The saponins of the present invention are suitable for veterinary and human pharmaceutical compositions which include one or more antigens, in particular those of synthetic origin, and one or more diluents, in pharmaceutically acceptable vehicles. These compositions can be used as immunopotenciators and/or immunomodulators in animals and human beings. The present invention further constitutes a vaccination method that includes the administration of one or more antigens and one or optionally more than one hemi-synthetic saponin of the invention.
Abstract:
The present invention refers to the microencapsulation of substances in stable liposomes of natural phospholipids for obtaining hyperimmune serum as the result of a formulation with less toxicity and increased immnunogenicity. More particularly, the present invention refers to stabilized liposomes containing poisons of animals, its process of obtainment and uses thereof for obtaining hyperimmune sera used in the treatment of accidents involving venom animals bites.
Abstract:
The present invention identifies autoantibodies to folate receptors. Methods to identify these autoantibodies to the human folate receptors are also provided. The present invention also contemplates diagnostic methods and test kits to be used in a clinical setting for identifying a subject at risk of folate-sensitive abnormalities or disorders as observed in neural tube defect complicatedpregnancies. In addition, infertility, spontaneous abortion, male sterility, unsuccessful in vitro fertilization, neurologic disorders and impaired folate absorption may also be associated with these autoantibodiesto folate receptors.
